NRC "Two hard, One easy" fartlek run - tricky but fast!

For this weeks speed work I decided I needed some motivation to actually do it, so I looked for a guided run on NRC. I found a fartlek run, and decided to do it as I didn't want a run where you had to stop.

The run was 5 minutes warm up; then (2 minutes hard running, one minute easy) x7! + cool down of course. Eek! When he told me how long I must say I was a bit nervous... especially when he told me 5 minutes in there was a second version of this run "1 hard, 2 easy!!. But I stuck with it and wow it was hard. In the hard running you become tired, breathing heavy... but 1 minute isn't enough to recover! At least not for me. I did have to pause it twice during the run, to walk for about a minute each time - but I'm not complaining considering this was a hard workout! Stats wise, i came out at have run exactly 5.00km - at an average pace of 5:11! Blimey no wonder I was tired, its the quickest I've ever run!

Luckily again this week I felt my breathing came down quickly, and I didn't feel out of breath for any time afterward. On the other hand I was so tired I had to take a nap!

This type of run will really support your longer ones too. Absolutely well done for giving it a shot and mixing it up! You are keeping really consistent and this is the key to it all. Brilliant job 🎽

I've got my 5k PB doing that run - still 31 minutes 26 though.

Been at it for over a year now. Don't think I'll ever get a sub 30 minute 5k. I was surprised although I'd walked or just trotted some of it, I still got a PB.
