Stiff as a board😟

Well I eventually got to see a physio on Tuesday to find out what's going on with my intermittent knee pain. My leg was pushed, pulled, stretched and twisted every which way🥴.

It was a very thorough assessment which in the end highlighted a niggle with the MCL. My lovely Brookes trainers had cured one issue on my left leg but aggravated the knee on the right.

Typical! Anyway the long and the short of it is I'm resting (again) for the week. Then have been set a series of exercises to strengthen my glutes, hamstrings and calf muscles.

I was warned I'd be sore the next day but it's two days since and it's worse today. With the best will in the world I'd never make a run this week. So a week off it is then I can try 2k and build from there. Hopefully the exercises will prove to be just the ticket 🤞. Isn't it strange how much you miss running when you can't do it🤔

Hope you get running again soon. I had a calf strain and could not run for two weeks. So I know what you mean. I started the strength and flex programme and it helped.

Good you got to see the physio and found out what the problem was.

I'm sure after a week off and your exercises all will be okay 😊🤞🤞

Heyyyyy!! This is tremendous 😁 yes it is!! You rest up, strengthen, exercise and you'll be back to stay back! Yahooooooo. I'd be buzzing if it was me. A rest will do you good and then when you try that initial run you'll be ready for it. Missing running is a great sign too!

Hi GTFC and thanks for the positive spin. I am relieved it's a minor set back and like you say the strengthening exercises should put me back on a much stronger footing. 🤣🤣 No pun intended

Sorry to hear you are feeling so sore, at least you've got an answer to the problem now. I'm sure a bit of rest and doing the exercises will do the trick. Just think how great it'll feel when you get back out there. x

So true! My turn to be pulled, stretched and poked tomorrow.

See my recent post on C25K.

TLDR: ouch!!; two ankle tendons damaged plus shin splint; ibuprofen; ice/heat; plenty of exercises; see you next week.

Good to know what it is and have a plan to get you back on your running feet as soon as possible 🙂 hope the pain is getting better!

Oh dear. You poor thing - sorting one problem and finding another. But it sounds like you are not the sort of person to give up. So hang on in there and you will achieve your goal.

Thanks! Starting exercises has been hard as it's still very sore

Don't rush it then. Take your time and you'll probably get there quicker.

Such a balancing act running. You need to run enough to strengthen your legs to try and avoid injury, but not too much as to cause injury. I always seem to be in this limbo, where soreness always seems close to injury, and whether to run through it or rest it. I only started running in May so I am hoping that after a year or two my legs will be much stronger and this balancing act won't be quite as prevalent. Anyway, I am sure you will be chomping at the bit to get out there again. Couple of short runs to start to get you back into it. Don't let frustration overwhelm you in the meantime and Good luck!!!

Thanks! I have been a bit lax with strengthening exercises so lesson learned.

I think this sounds positive Allbarron.. you've got a plan and a week off is ok, that 2k will come around in no time. Get cracking with your exercises and 🤞 onwards and upwards

Oh that’s not fair, heal well and enjoy your rest, I know exactly what you mean with missing running when you can’t

Glad you got to see a physio and have exercises to do. The key is actually doing them though.... I've been a bit slack on that front. But a rest will do you the world of good!

I've been doing them but I'm still sore from the physio.😟 How's it going with you??

Not bad. I'm about to go for a run - all being well it will be a 5k. Only my second run this week though so I need to try to make time and get more of a routine - including doing those pesky exercises!

Haha! We should maybe hold each other to account. I can't bear this lack of exercise. I'm absolutely shattered from doing nothing🤣🤣
