Well here I am again. Back on the magic plan so that I can run the Vitality Virtual 10k with my running buddies at the end of October. I should have been doing the New Forest 10k this month (now not in the New Forest and a week later) but I decided to take the pressure off and sold the ticket to someone who is doing the 10k as a warm up to the marathon the same day😱.
It seemed nice and cool as UpTheStanley and I walked to the seafront to start my attempt at 7k, my longest run since January, due to 2 spells on the Injury Couch.
The sea was flat calm and lots people were out at 10.00. A notice at the Life guards area said that the air temperature was 19C and the sea temperature was 18C, but when the clouds came over it was cooler because of a cooling NWN breeze. I was glad I had put shorts on instead of capris and taken sunglasses. Lots of runners were out at the same time and many exchange a nod or hello as we pass.
I had made it quite clear that I didn’t care about time but that doesn’t stop UTS calling out my pace at the end of each km. He later described it as run of 2 halves and I think he struggled to run at my slow speed in my 6th km. 😂😂. It was only an average of 25 secs per km difference but that covers up the highs and lows. He is a bit of a greyhound, and I’m sure he would have been more comfortable walking at times. But hey, it does him good to have a slow run occasionally! As recompense for his arduous journey we stopped for breakfast on the Beach, what more can you ask for?
So 7k done and dusted and a nice 3.5k and a Not parkrun with friends to follow later in the week.
Good luck everyone who started the magic plan this week. We can do this. 🏃♀️🏃♂️🕶☀️🌊🏖

Well done Dexy5 and UpTheStanley that sounds like a great run to me🏃♀️🏃♂️ I ran a (not) Parkrun along three seafront at Bognor this morning🙂👍 It was nice and quiet at 7:30, with only a few dog walkers and fellow runners on the esplanade😊 Everyone was keeping their distance and most of the runners friendly and waving. I would have had an ice cream 🍦 but I didn’t have any cash or debit card!😕
Rule number 1 David, always run with a credit card. 🤣🤣
Having said that, I’m not sure even I could eat ice cream 🍦 at that time. I always have the intention of going out earlier but I never seem to achieve it. The madly busy days of August are now gone thank goodness.
I can always make time for ice cream Dexy5, no matter the time of day or night!😋 I much prefer to run in the mornings🏃♂️ Now the mornings are dark I’ve got a head torch to light the way, as most of the street lights seem to be turned off overnight, particularly the pathway around the local park!
A really good 7K run for you today Dexy5, lovely photo of the seaside where you and UTS run, you are correct on him occasionally running slowly, I know it's a bad run for UTS when he doesn't achieve a sub 25 minute 5K.
This morning I ran a 5K, that was my 25th virtual parkrun as Damienair began that and my 12th (not) parkrun, I enjoyed my run this morning as you did as well. 😊 🏃🏾
I wouldn’t want to wish the time away cheekychipmunks (it goes fast enough already) but I am really looking forward to seeing you all again in October.
👏🏼🎉👏🏼 Well done. Give that UTS something heavy to carry if he can’t slow down. Very good for the leg control! Having said that, in our hill walking days I used to give OH a backpack with all the jackets, lunch, thermos etc and STILL had to watch my morning coffee disappear into the distance up the fells. 🤣
Running Daughter also sold her NF ticket. Next year....
The thing is, Dexy5 's natural "long run" pace has proved to be 7'30"/k (from graduating C25K at 4k in 30 mins to graduating B210K in 75), and I can run beside her at that pace all day. But at 7'45" or more my stride length is too short to be comfortable ....... so although I tell her she should be running at 7'30" because it's her standard, what I really mean is it's good for me
Which is indeed probably all about longer legs ....
UTS ran all of c25k with me , but I remember sneaking out one morning while he was sleeping , and it was quite liberating to run on my own all the way. It’s good to have a mixture of both. And of course parkruns are definitely at our own speed.
