Do I need new shoes?

Hi guys, I have just completed my second 7k run in 60mins just to prove to myself the first one wasn’t a fluke😆

But on this run I started to get a niggle in my right hip from about 6k, kept it slow but am wondering if the Adidas runfalcon shoes I bought at the start of the C25K plan in April are fit for longer runs🤔

I bought them to get me through the program and they have served me well but my left big toe is already wearing through the inner lining and as I go further/longer I am wondering if it would now be advisable to get a gait analysis and invest in a better pair now that the shops are open.

I would really value your experience and advice. I am doing warm up exercises plus a 5min warm up and cool down walk followed by yoga stretches. Strength training on rest days too😇😁

Hi Gysmo - Firstly, well done on your second 60 minute run - that's great! 👏🙂

The niggly hip could just be your body getting used to the longer runs - are you remembering to stretch out properly after your runs?

As for shoes, it might well be worth looking in to your gait - to make sure that they offer the right level of stability, support and cushioning for your personal gait/pronation. A runnning shop will do this for you although there are tools online that will give you an indication of the sort of shoe you need. Obviously, a good running shop will be able to check on the fit and watch you run in them. The choice is yours. Good luck!🙂

Thanks Sandraj39, yes I am stretching for about 20mins after my runs, trying to do everything to avoid injury🤞

You might be right about the body adjusting, guess I could see how I feel after the next long run🤔

I have tried the online gait analysis and figure I should need a neutral shoe but as for cushioning and stability🤷‍♀️, so I think best to get it done in store and get it right👍, that is when I feel brave enough, still very wary given the Covid situation☹️

Thank you for input, it is much appreciated😊

Brilliant effort on your 2nd 7k, you definitely do it😀 many running shops are only open by appointment- book a slot, so hopefully this helps limit your worry of crowds of people. Running shoes do seem different from other trainers, I love mine, not aware I'm wearing them when running they are so comfy but if I put them on for a walk 🤔 . Hopefully you're hips will ease off as they get used to longer times running. I know mine only hurt now if I sit around for too long🤣 happy running 🤗

Thanks Grannyhugs, I feel a phone call coming up in the morning.

Maybe the 5k walk in flip flops yesterday didn’t help....

I wanted to be active and after the first pair of shoes rubbed I switched to my old favourites but saying that there wasn’t a lot of cushioning in them🙄

Great job on the run. Yes, you need more shoes... though your current ones maybe suitable... we can never have too many running shoes 🤣. Gait analysis is definitely worthwhile, especially as we go up the distances.

Thanks unfitnomore, my husband may disagree due to the amount of leggings and sports bras I have bought.....

However I can’t help wondering what the outcome of a gait analysis would be and what a proper pair of running shoes will feel like.🤭🤩

Great running Gysmo, I use those shoes for every day use and walking the dog, I love them but for me I couldn't run in them. So I would say yes time to get a gait analysis and some shiny new shoes . I'm positive you'll feel the difference. 😊👍

Thanks Buddy34, I did buy them while in lockdown so they were a bit of a gamble, which so far has paid off.

Shop visit is looking more likely🤭😂

Hi Gymso i dont run as far as you i do 5k in 35 minutes but i invested in a pair of Brookes (£120). Best thing i ever did. Ive had 2 broken ankles in the past and have osteoporosis and my ankles have never felt better. Thoroughly recommend. Good luckxxx

I ran c25k in my old running shoes that I've had for about 8 years. I bought them for my first 5k event but i stopped running and didn't wear them that much. But when I treated myself to new shoes I couldn't believe the difference - they are fantastic. It sounds like you need new ones and they may be a bit small if ur toe is rubbing the lining. I was advised to buy a size bigger than my everday shoes and they are perfect.

Happy shopping and do post a photo - we all love a bit of shoe porn!!!
