After a good 18 months of not letting Strava see my running data, I gave in during February and have been resisting deleting my account for a while now!

I really need to turn off PRs and Segments but can’t see any way to do it. It’s driving me completely bonkers, and despite adding a lower PR in manually today, it’s still showing that I set a PB this morning, which I didn’t. Also I don’t give a damn how quickly/slowly everyone else is... and yet every time I run I get a load of segments and “achievements” based on them... completely useless to anyone, especially me, and really making the whole Strava experience suck.

So, is there any way to turn off all the BS? I know I can hide segments but then I find new ones every time I change route.

Not sure and not convinced it's possible UNM. I hear some people get Strava injuries trying to beat 'friends' on segments but Strava see the segments feature as a positive.

You may be right... I notice it gives me no message of congratulations when I don’t beat any PRs!

Not sure if this is what you're looking for

To enabling/disabling Live Segments navigate to the record screen and tap the settings icon. You can toggle Live Segments ON or OFF.

I’ll try it... though I don’t use the record screen, so not sure it will help, but we shall see... thanks.

Is the Push Notifications bit you want? There's an option to de-select segments.

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toKatnap

No... whole thing, notifications are ok, just don’t want some of the more useless data

I have been trying to get rid of segments but have failed to find a way of doing it 🤨

...need to find somewhere to run where absolutely no-one else has been 😄

That may be tricky... unless you get a really low tide!!

Yeah.... I don’t use strava to run, so audio cues are all off by default... it’s the use of segments in my stats that I’m trying to get rid of

These are all notifications settings, we're talking about removing the segments altogether 😊

Or you could abandon Strava completely and come over to the dark side that is MapMyWalk. Just gives distance run, total time and split times, though I have to admit that mine does seem to do this at quite random intervals. The on phone log makes it easy to chart progress.

Anyway, happy running.

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toChainsawCharlie

I’m already on the really dark side as a Nike Run Club runner, I do have mapmywalk but haven’t used it since I got my Garmin and never linked the accounts... I use my fitness pal, but while that is linked to my Garmin account it hasn’t linked to their other apps.

I can see me turning Strava off... I’m quite surprised it’s lasted 4 months 🤣

Try Runkeeper. Mine just records my runs, and gives me a yearly total. A good record for me and shared with no one.

Katnap profile image
KatnapGraduate10 in reply toBaddieThePirate

I also use Runkeeper sometimes if I want to go completely off-grid.

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toBaddieThePirate

Maybe, if I drop Strava I could try it... limiting myself to 3 trackers at a time 🤣

BaddieThePirate profile image
BaddieThePirateGraduate10 in reply toUnfitNoMore

Just 3? Surely one of them will do what you need?

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toBaddieThePirate

Kinda... I was happy with just NRC... but have to use Garmin to get the data from my watch to Nike... and then I did some social distanced runs (150 miles distanced) with a mate so needed Strava... and I’m at 3! 4 would be ridiculous though right?

I have the free Strava and don't get any of this...I do record. Not sure how I've managed that so not much use☹️

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toFleetnot

That is the free version... maybe you’ve discovered the fabled segment free zone!!!

Fleetnot profile image
FleetnotGraduate10 in reply toUnfitNoMore

Not sure how😂😂

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toFleetnot

Me either... don’t tell anyone where it is or there will be hundreds of new segments by weekend 🤣

😂 Limiting to 3 trackers might be tough UNM! I can’t imagine me with 2 trackers? 🤦🏽‍♀️ Fumblemania!!

I hope you find a solution! 💪🏽❤️

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toFabulous450

I only hit start on the watch... usually... unless I run a guided run then I have to do NRC and watch.

Strangely, I just got a circular email from Strava saying that they were going to focus on subscribers from now on and some things that are currently free will become premium features, including they segment leaderboard... hopefully this means I won’t see segments at all soon!

Got an email yesterday that segments and leaderboards are about to become subscription only. So don’t give up on it yet.

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toMaddee_6333

Yeah... it would be cool if they’d at least make some features opt in... one of the reasons I’ve avoided Strava for so long is that I’m a good candidate to get hooked on segments and this injured! I’m sure some will be upset that they’re making them subscription only... and for me it’s adding to the reasons to not pay them!

Maddee_6333 profile image
Maddee_6333Graduate10 in reply toUnfitNoMore

Yes, I’m sure there’s a lot of people moaning about it at the moment.

I’m not bothered one way or the other, though there is an ‘incline’ segment really close to home on one of my regular routes that I have enjoyed slowly creeping up the standings in. Think I might screenshot that one 🤣

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toMaddee_6333

There’s a downhill quarter mile here that’s just too tempting... top of the standings it 1:21 which I’m nowhere near as I’ve always done it as part of a longer run... as a 400m I think I could do it... BUT it’s on a twisty country road with no pavements and is part of the boy racer circuit, so it would be hard to attempt safely! The sooner I can’t see that leaderboard the better 🤣

If you find it useless and BS just delete Strava altogether. Perhaps just track your running on Garmin Connect or another App.

I left Facebook over 5 years ago because I thought 99% of everything posted was BS and it used to wind me up. So I deleted my Account. Best thing to do, and now it does not bother me.

This is very true... need to convince my occasional running buddy to sync to another app though! My main tracker remains NRC as it has all my runs right back to my aborted efforts pre C25K, but Nike don’t allow any data sharing between users since the EU laws changed.

I do like some of the Strava features... maybe I need to look into messing with the raw gps data and a good old spreadsheet?!

I love Strava, and I just ignore all of the stuff like that. It does have a lot of fab stats for you that are helpful, and you can set yourself goals etc. I havent had a PB in anything for over 3 years and it really isnt an issue. I do my thing, and if people dont like it they can unfollow me! Perhaps have a look at what you do like on Strava and focus on looking at those bits?

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate10 in reply toju-ju-

Yeah... it looks like most of what I don’t like is going premium 😎. Will wait and see what it’s like after the update.
