After a good 18 months of not letting Strava see my running data, I gave in during February and have been resisting deleting my account for a while now!
I really need to turn off PRs and Segments but can’t see any way to do it. It’s driving me completely bonkers, and despite adding a lower PR in manually today, it’s still showing that I set a PB this morning, which I didn’t. Also I don’t give a damn how quickly/slowly everyone else is... and yet every time I run I get a load of segments and “achievements” based on them... completely useless to anyone, especially me, and really making the whole Strava experience suck.
So, is there any way to turn off all the BS? I know I can hide segments but then I find new ones every time I change route.

Not sure and not convinced it's possible UNM. I hear some people get Strava injuries trying to beat 'friends' on segments but Strava see the segments feature as a positive.
Or you could abandon Strava completely and come over to the dark side that is MapMyWalk. Just gives distance run, total time and split times, though I have to admit that mine does seem to do this at quite random intervals. The on phone log makes it easy to chart progress.
I’m already on the really dark side as a Nike Run Club runner, I do have mapmywalk but haven’t used it since I got my Garmin and never linked the accounts... I use my fitness pal, but while that is linked to my Garmin account it hasn’t linked to their other apps.
I can see me turning Strava off... I’m quite surprised it’s lasted 4 months 🤣
Kinda... I was happy with just NRC... but have to use Garmin to get the data from my watch to Nike... and then I did some social distanced runs (150 miles distanced) with a mate so needed Strava... and I’m at 3! 4 would be ridiculous though right?
I only hit start on the watch... usually... unless I run a guided run then I have to do NRC and watch.
Strangely, I just got a circular email from Strava saying that they were going to focus on subscribers from now on and some things that are currently free will become premium features, including they segment leaderboard... hopefully this means I won’t see segments at all soon!
Yeah... it would be cool if they’d at least make some features opt in... one of the reasons I’ve avoided Strava for so long is that I’m a good candidate to get hooked on segments and this injured! I’m sure some will be upset that they’re making them subscription only... and for me it’s adding to the reasons to not pay them!
Yes, I’m sure there’s a lot of people moaning about it at the moment.
I’m not bothered one way or the other, though there is an ‘incline’ segment really close to home on one of my regular routes that I have enjoyed slowly creeping up the standings in. Think I might screenshot that one 🤣
There’s a downhill quarter mile here that’s just too tempting... top of the standings it 1:21 which I’m nowhere near as I’ve always done it as part of a longer run... as a 400m I think I could do it... BUT it’s on a twisty country road with no pavements and is part of the boy racer circuit, so it would be hard to attempt safely! The sooner I can’t see that leaderboard the better 🤣
If you find it useless and BS just delete Strava altogether. Perhaps just track your running on Garmin Connect or another App.
I left Facebook over 5 years ago because I thought 99% of everything posted was BS and it used to wind me up. So I deleted my Account. Best thing to do, and now it does not bother me.
This is very true... need to convince my occasional running buddy to sync to another app though! My main tracker remains NRC as it has all my runs right back to my aborted efforts pre C25K, but Nike don’t allow any data sharing between users since the EU laws changed.
I do like some of the Strava features... maybe I need to look into messing with the raw gps data and a good old spreadsheet?!
I love Strava, and I just ignore all of the stuff like that. It does have a lot of fab stats for you that are helpful, and you can set yourself goals etc. I havent had a PB in anything for over 3 years and it really isnt an issue. I do my thing, and if people dont like it they can unfollow me! Perhaps have a look at what you do like on Strava and focus on looking at those bits?
