Can I do it.

I’ve got a running route planned in my head but can I do it? It’s roughly eleven miles and I don’t won’t to fail, I’ve run nine miles last week, so what do you think guys, am I pushing my luck?

The usual advice is to increase by no more than 10%. But 9 miles to 11 miles seems do-able. Best thing, because you want it so much, is probably to set off, but plan to walk if the body says 'stop'. Listen to your body. Reading though your posts, I think you got a good one!

2 miles might be within 10% depending on the other runs last week? As I understand it the rule is that neither the total mileage for the week nor the longest run should increase by more than 10% of the previous week’s total mileage?

I think it's important not to get too hung up on rules too. I like 'listen to your body' best.

Yes and no. Listening to the body is rule number 1, of course. But the thing about rookies not running on consecutive days, for example, is not something your body warns you about: it's precisely because we feel so good that we want to run again too soon and risk injury. But I think once you know the REASON for a rule then you know when it's safe to bend, tweak or even break it. For example I sometimes technically break the ten percent 'rule' by quite a lot because I missed a run the week before but I'm within ten percent of what I would normally do and 'you don't lose condition in a week' is another 'rule' isn't it? :) The rules are simplifications - to my mind they should not be ignored but we don't need to be slaves to them as long as we know what we are doing.

I laughed when I saw it was only ten miles anyway :)

Aha, I hadn't spotted that they were consecutive days.

And the rest of what you say is good advice too.

I don't know if they were consecutive days and I don't know if Agelesslass is in her first year of running either, she's running nine and ten miles so might be sufficiently experienced to run consecutive days for all I know. I just used the consecutive day rule for first year runners as an example of why you can't necessarily replace all rules with 'listen to your body'.

Only one way to find out... 😊

Seriously though, if you fail the first time (which I'm sure you won't) all you need to do is try again xxx

Is this no more than 10% of last weeks mileage? How are legs? Could you slow up and take some walk breaks as its a route you really want to do?

I’d give it a whirl you’ve floated the idea so I assume you’re pretty sold on it 🙂

There’s no hurry so you can take your time and enjoy yourself. Take a drink and a tasty snack and have a break mid point.

Good luck. Have fun 💪👍😃🏃‍♀️

I did but it was a ten mile route in the end, lots of hills to get up, my legs are feeling it now. Thanks for asking.

Yay, well done 💪👍😃🏃‍♀️ Ruddy hills. I was doing them again today but not as far as you ✊

Hills are tough and sometimes you have to chew them up a piece at a time. They’re like gristle 😁
