A million metres...

On 11 March 2019. I laced up my shiny new running shoes for the first time and set off to restart Couch to 5k. Having only got two weeks into it on my previous attempt before my knees forced me to take an extended rest break, I wasn't entirely filled with optimism, but I was determined to see if I could get there. Get there, I did. I graduated on 7 May 2019 and kept on running.

Today's run, which was an easy paced 12.k lollop around the village and surrounding countryside took me to beyond 1,000k since taking those first tentative steps 51 weeks and 167 runs ago.

I don't like using words like "transformative" because they always sound a bit trite; but in this case I think it's entirely accurate. Up until this time last year I would probably manage up to 5-6k on a Saturday during the rugby season and that was as far as running went. I'm still doing those 5-6k "Saturday Scribbles" but they are now run as part of the typical 25-30k that I run each week.

Anyway, let's see how many more metres my legs have been subjected to by this time next year...

Congratulations on all those runs, a really great achievement, I notice that you are like me running in the Vitality Running World Cup which begins on Thursday with part of the Healthunlocked Team.

Yes, I should probably have saved the above run until tomorrow, as it would have been a good account opener, but never mind...

Good luck with your runs.

Tomorrow its just the qualifying run, you must run a 3K in 30 minutes, Saturday 14th March is the first day of the VRWC, good luck. 👍 🏃🏾

Absolutely fantastic effort, what a star you are. Just looked at my stats and it’s 360 in 5 months so I better up my distances if this is the standard we are aiming for 😉 happy running 🤗

I'm sure once the weather improves and the days start lengthening you be puttingany more on yourself (unless babysitting interferes, which is completely allowable).

I saw new daddy got out for a 5k yesterday when baby was still less than a week. Amazing. I did cover 100k in February so may manage your 1000k this year, but certainly not starting from graduation.

My 1000 includes the C25K runs up to graduation as well, not just since graduating. I'm aiming at around 100k/month but I just scraped over 70 in February. Hopefully I'm back on track again this month.

Brilliant effort. All my stats are from post c25k as bought garmin after graduation so taking that as my start point.

Thanks Debston , it amazing what a bit of stubbornness can achieve when combined with the good fortune that's kept me injury free as well.
