Many thanks to all of you who replied to my parkrun question last night. I took the plunge this morning and it was amazing. The last km or so was a real struggle, but when I looked at my running app it's no wonder. I raced(?) round in a pb of 38 min 17, although my official time will be slower because the runner in front's barcode wouldn't scan properly (and I wasn't sure what to do when I finished!). Thanks so much to everyone for their help and kind words and I definitely look forward to doing it againπ€©

First Parkrun done!
Congratulations on completing your first parkrun and glad you enjoyed itππββοΈ
Well done. The delay in scanning another parkrunner's barcode should not affect your time. As long as people stay in order between the timers and being handed a barcode it doesn't make any difference which order you are scanned. Most parkruns have more than one barcode scanner so people can't possibly stay in the order they arrived at the finish line.
Congratulations on completing your first 5k Parkrun, well done, good time as well, sub 40 minutesπnow go and celebrate your first 5k Parkrun., ππ
Congratulations on your first parkrun and I hope you enjoyed it. The scanning of tokens matches them to the clicks the timekeeper has recorded so your time isnβt dependent on when you actually get scanned. There are often long queues for scanning at busy parkruns.
Well done. Doesn't matter when you get scanned. Your time is from crossing the line.
Well done Ag - so glad you enjoyed it! Parkrun can be fairly addictive so be warned!!
So glad you enjoyed it Archerygoddess . It is very easy to get carried along by everyone else but it also helps you realise what you are capable of. Well done on that PB too.

I did get off a bit quickly and so struggled for the last 1000m because of that. Will have to pace myself better next time
Negative splits are what we should aim for but I rarely manage it. I admit it does feel better starting slower and then getting faster with each lap. Takes a lot of discipline though.
Well done on your first parkrun Archerygoddess!πPlenty more where that came from !π
