Just a gentle reminder to everyone.

If you are going to Europe or live In Europe be careful with the heat.

In parts of the UK it is hot and getting hotter tomorrow, take care in these conditions.

I have just come back from my run and cut it short at 2.5km. I have had a stressful week, not sleeping and it is hot and we also have a very high pollen count here today, when I get hay fever it Inflames my arthritis. So half way through my run I just thought if I carry on I’ll push on into an injury and one run is just not worth that.

I know as you are going through Your program the thought of missing or moving a run can be daunting thing but put your health before your run. If the conditions are not right, defer the run.

The French Minister of health has highlighted the dangers of those jogging in the midday sun at temperatures over 40 degrees and I have to agree with her. That sort of heat can be dangerous to run in and as much as we are all runners on here (all of us) we have a responsibility to ourselves to know when not to run.

Very good advice Rfc ! Here in Catalonia it is above 45 degrees this afternoon. I have started running at 6.45 a.m. which takes some doing, but at least the heat is manageable then! The plus side is that I am getting much more done in the day. Take care everyone .

Wise words, as always RFC - thank you! If there is ONE thing I have learned since I started running, it is "learn to listen to your body". Training plans are great but nothing beats a little bit of common sense! πŸ™‚ As I have a race on Sunday, I won't be out in the heat tomorrow but hope that those who do, heed your advice and run safely.πŸ™‚

Very apt advice RFC. I was heading out for a long run tomorrow but thought how stupid is that? So I’m doing it on Sunday instead as it’s cooler.

My brother’s in Paris atm and it’s about 40+ degrees πŸ₯΅πŸ₯΅

I was watching the french news and they interviewed an elderly gentleman at the end of his run. He said that he had 'only' run 11km. I was filled with admiration and horror. I think we all know how difficult it can be to not do a planned run but It might be wise. Thanks RFC.

I’m running the 10k Bristol Race for Life tomorrow at 11am, but I think it’s only going to be 18 degrees by then. Plenty warm enough for me - I can’t imagine how it would be running today. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ₯΅ Stay safe everyone. ❀️

i time my run so i finish it just before dark, when the sun is low i manage to cope with the constant drag of the summer heat...mind you in heatwaves ..above 40 ,,,even the evening is too hot so i dont run...waiting for the autumn to do 10k...happy running and sweating!!

It's 37Β° in this part of France and incredibly humid. I went out before 7.00am yesterday and after my brisk 5 minute walk I couldn't summon up the energy to start running so I just carried on walking. Even that was too much effort so I only did 4.25k. No more running for me until it cools down a bit!

I love running in hot weather. It sounds insane but l have no issue with high humidity either. My holidays will always be in hot climate and I will be running so here's my 10 rules:

1. hydrate more then ever, avoid booze and sodas, water will do, otherwise you dehydrate.

2. either run before the Sun is fully up or when it starts going down. Don't ever run during peak hot hours between 11am and 5-6pm. Ever. If you do you'll understand why not.

3. limit the length to what's doable. I never go past 5K if it's 30c plus.

5. wet your hair or wear wet headgear. Shades help me lots, calm it all down.

6. Between the runs stretch like you've never stretched before. Heat and cramps are good friends. They also both flirt with dehydration.

7. always seek shade and stop straight away if lightheaded. If you don't then it will stop you this way or the other.

8. eat light stuff. You don't stuff yourself with heavy stuff and then go running. You can run right into heart attack territory.

9. if locals point and laugh at you when running in those conditions they probably think you're an idiot. I probably am but who cares, l seem to get by.

10. did l mention good hydration?
