Do you run with water? I'm talking runs up to 10k. I've never tried it, seems hard to fathom how I would carry/control water whilst running (I don't stop on route, if I do I wouldn't start again!) It's getting warmer and my main event I am training for is early July, late morning so there is the potential for some heat on top of the usual trials and tribulations of achieving 10k!
The only time I've had water on a run is when it was handed out (in small cups) part way round a 5k. It was near impossible to consume any of it, just wet my lips drop the cup and carry on. Not sure it was worth the faff and distraction to be honest though of course understand why the organisers had water stations.
Grateful for any advice.

I didn't used to carry water for a 10k but I'm so used to wearing my vest if I were going out for 6/7 miles now I would pop 1 flask in it but only 1/3 full.
Depending on temp you probably aren't going to need it.
Carrying fluids can be a pain. I tried various waist belt methods but most are pretty hopeless. I can't be doing with anything hand held either. I want my hands free at all times. I eventually gave in and bought a Salomon vest which holds 2 x 500ml flasks in front and I've adapted a bladder to fit the rear pouch so I could take up to 2l if needed.
If you have good sized pockets you could slip a 250ml soft flask in fairly easily
I have a very small bottle (ex travel size Listerine) I fill with water and carry in my bum bag. Figure if I really need to use it I should stop to drink it rather than throw it all down my front. Not used it yet but I have stopped to go to loo a few times and always got back into it afterwards 😉
I have a belt which holds 2 small bottles which I use if running for more than an hour and/or when it’s very hot. They sit either side of the central zipped section. Out in Southsea yesterday I was a bit worried the heavy police presence for the D Day event would think I was a gunslinger. I can’t drink whilst running, I can’t even manage the typical pull in push out stopper and get enough onboard at the best of times. I usually take a short walking break every 4 or 5k, take the lid off, have a proper glug and then carry on. I used it when I ran the London Vitality 10k last week and was glad I had. Although there were 2 water stations on the course and water at the end, it was a hot day, and I found I needed more than they were providing.
I definitely don’t recommend carrying a bottle (or anything else) in your hand. When I first started running and couldn’t manage parkrun without a drink, I used one of those hand loop bottles, but it does affect your running.
I use a running vest which can carry 2 500ml bottles, but I've never felt the need to drink during a run. Very nice to have a glug once the run is over though.
I've run with water since day one and drunk it. of course sometimes to comical results as you can imagine. I find it useful as a shower when I get too hot too... Maybe if you start using one before a race you'll get used to it more. I bought a strap from decathlon which fits on my bottle (obv not screw top): decathlon.co.uk/handheld-bo...
Personally no, I don't but if I'm driving to my running route I always have some in the car for when I finish. I like to carry as little as possible when I'm running, I probably should but I even rarely take my phone either, a Garmin watch and a tiny mp3 player is about my lot I just wouldn't fancy carrying a bottle
I've never run with water for a 10k but have a good drink when I finish. I think the advice is that the body doesn't need it but some people find it helpful?
Thanks all for really helpful feedback. I think I’m going to continue running without water but have it available fast on returning home/back to the car after parkrun. I can’t imagine carting it around with me inhand, on belt or in a pouch. Fingers crossed 7th July in Cambridge isn’t 35 degrees!!! Think it was last year at that time of yet!
I own a hand held loop bottle which I used when running in toasty Tenerife in March, I also own a little FlipBelt water bottle which I take for runs over 10k, or for when/if it gets exceptionally hot here this summer. I’m not good at drinking on the move, but it’s nice knowing I can if I need to. 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
During the Bristol 10k there was a water station and I must admit I took a bottle
and ended up doing ‘what serious runners do’ and poured it down my neck every so often. It felt amazing! 😀
I have a lightweight Anjani running vest which I wear even for short runs. I tried arm bands for the phone and a waist belt but both felt uncomfortable. The vest I can forget about - and swallows up my phone, keys, a 250ml squishy bottle and a 1.5l bladder (haven’t used that yet). I used the squishy while running in afternoon heat yesterday to squeeze water over my head and face and wet my lips when I was getting very hot. It felt good! I think knowing I have access to water improves the run for me, I’m able to relax more.
