New Trail shoes + new trailsocks x2 = 1 Happy SaskAlliecat 😻

I went shopping and finally bought some new trail shoes last week before starting my marathon of nights on-call for work(which means no running 😭) - the Saucony Excursion 11.

Then I went online and ordered some injinji toe socks after reading about some other’s experiences with them. I wasn’t sure how they would fit my short little toes - they are maybe a little long in the toes and maybe I should’ve sized down rather than up but with the wide toe box of my new shoes, I’m not too worried. I bought the mid weight trail ones that are a bit more rugged with a higher cuff to protect the ankles - they might be a bit warm in the summer, but we shall see. If I like them, I may need to try the thinner ones in a smaller size.

My second pair of socks were bought to meet the requirements for free shipping, of course 😁. They are also trail specific, made of smartwool and are mid calf. Kind of an awkward length - kind of a crew sock length, but they’re funky and cute and are touted as having extra protection for the ankle bone and back of the heel. I think they’ll be nice for wearing with my full tights so I can tuck my tights in and help protect me from any ticks crawling where they shouldn’t 😱. Again, they might be a little warm for full summer runs ... time will tell.

I’ll be giving the shoes and socks a decent test run this weekend. Now, not only do I have to decide shorts, capris or tights; t-shirt, tank-top, long sleeve top; jacket or no jacket; it’ll be the thinner, lighter balega 3/4 length sock (in boring white and grey), long full length compression sock (in pink and green hues), mid calf funky trail socks, or my thicker toe socks. .... I feel some serious faffage coming on 😂. So many choices, so little time 🤣

You know me...I'll probably post a novel about it 😂.

This was supposed to be a short post, a look at my new socks and shoes post. Oops. Long winded Allie strikes again 😂

A run would not be complete with some pre run pfaffing. I pfaff more about what to wear to go for a run than I do for a meal out with friends. Love the funky socks. Do please post as to whether or not the toe socks work out.

Good luck!

Ooh, I love the socks. Can’t wait to hear how the toe socks work! So many decisions are involved with running and running wear. 😀

Great! I have the Excursions too. It’s a great tough shoe. Those are some fancy socks too! Can’t go wrong there!

I was pleasantly surprised when I went to my local sport store this time, there was actually some choices! I tried every trail shoe they had, but these were the wide ones and they fit great and the price was alright, too. If I like them and my feet are happy in them, I will take a closer look at the waterproof excursions that they had (they had 3 different models of Excursion alone!).

Yeah I tried a load of shoes too and the Saucs were the only ones that felt right. I would like to try a pair of Salomon trail shoes out too to see how they feel. I’m curious to know how the toe socks work for you.

They had a pair of Salomon at the store and I tried them, as well. They are a narrow fit which doesn't fit my feet. They were comfortable though, if it wasn't for my bunion. The lacing system is different, too. I'm sure I'll put a post up once I've given the toe socks a good try. They were fiddly to fit over my little webbed toes, but they seemed surprisingly comfortable for the few minutes I wore them. I can't wait to try them on a run next!

Can’t wait to hear your verdict on your funky toe socks Sask! Awesome and very cool! Beautiful new runners too. 😍😍 I still love looking at photos of people’s new trainers - who knew? 😅😅

Oooh, that's a serious list of kit! But then you do some serious runs so definitely worth the investment I think. And those socks do look funky. :)

And I didn't even list it all.....hydration vest, or hydration belt (one bottle or 2), or none; running hat or buff, poles or no poles.....we won't even list the winter specific kit 😳😂. I thought running was cheap and easy, you only need a pair of trainers 😆

Eek! I think I'll just stick to my little runs along the mersey... then it's just "rain jacket or not?"... the rest is always the same.

I wish you many happy runs in your new shoes and socks, Allie! I have some toe socks. I like them, but to me don’t feel much different to normal socks. They are good though, and in the sock rotation!

Happy trails!

I found I didn't have much issue with my feet in my old shoes. Sometimes I would get a ridged callus where my big toe pushes on my second toe (lovely bunion 🙄) but I couldn't buy a third pair of the same shoes since they are no longer made. These shoes have a wide toe box so should hopefully be good as well, and variety is the spice of life - lots of choice now in the sock department. I can't believe I now have trail running vs road running socks, although I bought a lovely pair of neon pink Lycra socks last year that are great for road running, but too slippery in my shoes for trail running and running on off cambered trails. I love my running gear!

Wow I love those long socks (only bought for free shipping of course) and those shoes look serious. Maybe I should have got some like that instead of mine. No i cant have shoe envy one day after getting mine.
