Energy: Hi can any one recommend a energy gel... - Bridge to 10K
Energy
Morning.. you won't really need an energy gel for 10K....With a healthy eating regime and proper hydration you'll be fine. Many of us don't even take water, unless it is really, really hot.. and then its usually for pouring over our wrists or neck
Stick to your normal eating pattern too....as long as it is a healthy one..don't start loading up on carbs or trying new recipes๐
Have you been following ju-ju- 's programme ?
Iโve been trying out the SIS gels on longer runs 18k plus to see how I get on with them - I heard they can cause stomach problems for some and you really donโt want to be desperately needing to go mid race - and so far so good. But as Oldfloss says, donโt think you should need for 10k and Iโve heard itโs a good idea to avoid taking something at an event youโve not tried on a training run.
Don't need it for 10k Jennypenny2. Pasta the night before. Hydrate well. A good night's sleep and a light brekkie well in advance of race!
Hydrate after the race. You usually get a choccy bar or fruit bar in your post race bag to nibble on. ๐
Good luck in your race! Keep us posted on how you do. ๐
When I was doing B210k last time Jenny, the most important thing to me was drinking plenty the day before, and having a drink available straight after the run. I also liked something sweet after the run; it might not be good nutritional advice but what my body (or head?)wanted.
Our long runs on the Billy Trail end near a small cafe and millionaire shortbread was just perfect!
If you haven't had a test with one, it might be better to steer clear. For a 10k I am not sure you will gain much benefit. I can't take them as they go straight through me ( TMI!!!).... If you are worried about slumping I often take energy tablets ( that you get from the chemist) for a quick boost?
They take 45-60mins to take effect so if you take one at the start you will likely be done before it gives you a pick up. I have used the SIS ones and if you feel you just want something with you anyways, they are easy to tear and suck down while running and don't taste bad. Sometimes just having something available is another piece of the mental armour that lets us perform, of the times I have carried them 8 times out of 10 I have forgotten to take them hehe.
the SIS ones make me gag. I use Tailwind instead and take some before i run and carry a bottle with me. That does the trick and is actually really nice to drink. As others have said, you don't need anything for shorter runs - except if you have low blood pressure like me, and I find an electrolyte tablet stops the dizzy spells and kick starts my energy.
Hi. Ive never used them I did buy some from Aldi a while back (reduced) but yet to try.
Good luck with the 10K. You'll smash it!
Your right just a bottle of water will do
