Now!vember Quest: Final week! 😍And WOW!!!!!😍

Hi everybody - welcome to the final week of the Now!vember Quest!!

I'm now thinking it should be WOW!vember 😊 because there have been some wonderful achievements this month! It's been a privilege to join in, and to read your posts each week.

Best wishes for a strong finish - or for a restful one if that's what you need πŸ’— At the end of the week I will be posting your groovy certificate πŸ˜„

And the new Quest will start on December 1st!!!!!

What is the Quest?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can at join any point during that time.

I ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:

β˜… To run three times a week

β˜… To slowly increase distance

β˜… To train for a specific race

β˜… To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like:

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............

Every week of the Quest there is a new post where we can all chat about how we are getting on. It’s awesome!!! πŸ˜ƒ

Wishing you a happy, healthy, and totally awesome rest-of-the-month with lots of running πŸ’₯

Millsie-J, Realfoodieclub, Oldfloss, Ju-Ju, and Roseabi xxx

I toned it down a bit last week. I've reduced my running after my marathon year because both my Achilles tendons were feeling the strain, and after my return to parkrun i felt a bit sore. So no runs last week, and only one strength - but I did manage two swims. Loving my swimming at the moment 😊 And the Achilleses are feeling much better!

I'll be carrying my quest over to December but I'm adding another quest ! I enjoyed my hilly, early morning, frosty run yesterday but I stopped 3/4 times. Once to take a photo (taking a leaf from 61+ and SQKR's books). My plan for this week is to go to my Pilates class, my strength classes (1 or 2), do one easy run during the week and a hilly quest run next weekend. Hoping my aching glutes recover ;)

Good luck with your hilly quest run Paula! What does it involve?

β€’ in reply toMutleyShuffle

I have a hilly route (between 7km and 9km) and I want to run it without stopping. I think it'll take me another month to achieve but that's OK. You'd munch it up and spit it out I'm sure ;)

Go for it! Ha ha don't know about munching it up, more like shuffle up it! Enjoy! πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸƒπŸ’ͺ

I end up taking so many photo stops sometimes! There are just those days when it's impossible to resist, and after a few I just think 'sod it' πŸ˜„

I'm really pleased to have finished my 3rd 10k of the month! The last one went really well and I enjoyed it more than the others - I don't really know why as I wasn't particularly looking forward to it so wasn't psychologically boosted up. I remembered to eat a sandwich 45 minutes before and a banana 10 mins before, as well as sipping on my Tailwind during, so I kept my blood sugar stable, which must have helped. I know that wouldn't work for most people but I am a bit weird!

I also did my home strength routine once during the week and I have a yoga class booked for this evening so feel happy I am getting a bit of cross training in. This week I plan on having two easy dog jogs in the week and then Park Run on Saturday - yay! I have missed Park Run with all these races being on Sundays, so really looking forward to it 😊

Happy Running all! πŸ˜πŸƒπŸ’ͺπŸ€—

β€’ in reply toMutleyShuffle

Doggy will be happy :) I eat half an hour before runs also, so you're not alone in the weird camp. I haven't tried Tailwind though. Enjoy your yoga.

A pretty good week I think in terms of my quest. I've completed my 50 miles in November nice and early (I'm lacking about 200m of the evidence though - I should be able to get that tomorrow :D ). I've started roseabis HM plan now so didn't really get any speed/intervals in last week, although I did spend a lot of time checking my pace (particularly when Garmin wobbled and wanted me to believe I was running at less than walking pace - on the flat!). I swam once and did strength exercises at home the other two non-run days, plus two pilates classes so I am happy that I'm sticking with my cross-training goal too.

A great month so far :)

Ooh, exciting! Even more so as we're 'running' up to my birthday now and the start of Advent when I have a medally fitness advent calendar and a candle advent calendar and a self filled chocolatey one to look forward to.

I've half a kilometre to go to reach my 7km Quest goal for swimming - and 5k to go to reach the end of my looooooooong virtual swim, which I'd like to complete before my Dad dies/is no longer aware but it is a bit of a juggle as I am needed there too.

8/12 yoga sessions in the bag, picked up a bit this week - nothing like a spot of stress to act as a reminder!

Only one teeny run - in normal clothes, sandals but boy it felt good... plus I've already got a little one in this morning so that's 4/8

The weight was going very positively but when your Dad says he wants pizza *and* Chinese and cake for his last ever birthday and there's ice cream too, well... still not gone as high as the start of the month though.

Yes, it is helping.

It's a funny thought that the last run he'll ever have done was me taking him out to do Week 1 of C25K (He's been a runner all his life. I was shouting at him to slow down as he zoomed off into the distance - 84 and with advanced prostate cancer!)

I also know that it brings him a great deal of pleasure to see his children and grandchildren living active lifestyles.

β€’ in reply toGoogleMe

That was so lovely to share that with him, Googleme. He must be so delighted that you are all following in his footsteps. My own Dad is 86 and was a runner all his life. It's wonderful to share that experience with them (even if it's at the end of their lives). Hugs

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMeGraduate10β€’ in reply to

I'm very much ploughing my own furrow with my fitness activities - he has kind of inspired me in a negative way - I don't share his approach at all, partly due to my disability and partly because I don't think it is healthy for anyone (Despite the fact that I am very proud of all his achievements and so sad that he will not get his wish of running up the M90 medal winners' podium at the British Orienteering Championships)

We had a lovely day yesterday with his old running friends (one sporting a rather spectacular running injury!)

Flaraflarkin profile image
FlaraflarkinGraduate10

I've managed another week of running every other day which I'm really pleased about ~ I quite like the fact that I sneak in an extra run every other week (i.e. 3 one week, 4 the next) yesterday I'd intended to do a 6k but I messed up by getting up too late and then my Nike Run app messed up πŸ™ˆ But on the plus side my husband ran with me, think we did 4K (judging by time) but I wasn't too fussed because I'd already done my 3 decent runs for that week. A run is most definitely a run πŸ€—πŸ¦‹πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Have a good week all xx

MutleyShuffle profile image
MutleyShuffleGraduate10β€’ in reply toFlaraflarkin

That's great you're enjoying running every other day - and sneaking an extra run in sounds like a bargain! I aim to start doing this as of next week πŸ€—

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10

I managed my 3 runs last week, despite lots going on but only got one strength training session in. It was a busy week in our household though, so I'm pleased with that regardless. I got out and ran on my snowy mountain bike course yesterday. It's not my lake trails, but it was fun regardless, trudging through the snow, up and around the banked corners, around the rocks and logs. It was a little tough following part of the course, but managed 3k of my 6k run on the trails.

linda9389 profile image
linda9389Graduate10β€’ in reply toSaskAlliecat

That sounds amazing. I can't imagine running in the snow. Hubby is changing plans for his longed for ski holiday next year - we might now be in the snow before my HM. I'm dreading it! That will be a week of not running, and being terrified I pick up an injury in the snow too! I like it when the ground is utterly non slippy and firm below my feet :D

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10β€’ in reply tolinda9389

I imagine running in snow would be similar to running in sand; it definitely works the ankles/Achilles/calves/hip flexors differently. I've been slowly building up my snowy distance again. Fortunately (unfortunately?) our snow has been coming and going a lot this year as we alternate between very cold and too warm for winter. I could live without the ice that comes with the temperature fluctuations.

I understand the worry of injury and not wanting to do anything differently before a race. I won't waterski in the summer when I'm at the peak of my training for concern of pulling something, but maybe this summer I'll use it as a cross training exercise since I'll be stronger with all the cross training I should be doing this winterπŸ€”....we'll see....

linda9389Graduate10β€’ in reply toSaskAlliecat

Hi Abi

I’m pleased to report that I’ve knocked off target #3 of 3 this morning.

Pacemaker Dexy took me out to 6k in 45 minutes (I was hoping for 8k in an hour, but a wardrobe malfunction got in the way), and I added the extra 8k to get to my 14k distance target in 92’50”, so about 6 minute pace for the last bit.

Happy happy, but think I’ll be a bit less ambitious in December though πŸ˜›

Hi fellow Questers,

All is going well for me too. Still running every other day. This week that was a run just under 3k in the rain, then two runs of 5k which I really enjoyed (Got my Turkey Trot badge and my feathers stayed dryπŸ˜†)

I did one good session of core work, and felt strong next run, so I do need to make myself do this.

I haven't had any alcohol this month, its been good. No falling asleep watching TV and I feel slimmer... I will do this again in January.

Today I went out on a recce run, a new route, to try to find a new longer run route. It was quite challenging for me, so I needed to take some brisk walk breaks. There was a muddy cross country bit at the end and the run was just over 6k. When I finished I didn't feel that usual high feeling of achievement so probably won't be doing this route after all.. there are ways to extend it more, but if I'm not enjoying it...πŸ˜‘

Two more runs to go this month. I hope they will be good ones.

Happy running everyone😊xx

β€’ in reply toBluebirdrunner

If you’re not enjoying a route, don’t do it, I agree. And if it’s muddy absolutely not. Puddles are doable πŸ˜‰well done on the no alcohol. And the runs.

Hello Roseabi, a successful week of 3 runs . One 7k, one intervals and a PB at my first rainy parkrun. I meant to do 8k today, but had to stop once for the wardrobe malfunction alluded to by my OH . Zip up bra unzipped itself! Then ended up stopping altogether at 6.5k as my right knee was complaining. I confess I’ve been lazy with my knee strengthening exercises so I’m going to get back to them . Slap on the wrist. Happy running everyone.

Hi roseabi. Was doing great until last Tuesday when after 20 mins I got what I call a niggly knee. Had to stop running 😟 as didn’t want to carry on in case I made it worse. Have no idea what it is? Knee? Hip? ( have a terrible clicky hip). Who knows. Not sure I care! Been grumpy all week. Still went to gym and did bike and cross trainer for 30 mins so I kept my 3 times a week plan. So tempted to get on treadmill yesterday but didn’t. Going to give it a try tomorrow. And still desperate to get outdoors as gremlins telling me I can’t run outside for 30 mins anymore. What’s that about???? Rubbish week but hopefully it will be ok and I caught whatever it was early. Just reread my post. Sorry for moaning πŸ˜„

β€’ in reply toWimborne

You went to the gym and you stuck to your 3 times a week plan so kudos to you. Have a bit of a niggly knee myself and like you, I couldn't be assed to try to sort it out :) Being outside might clear the grumps?

I squeezed in 3 cardio workouts - 2 runs and an Insanity cardio workout (modified ie minimal jumping!), 2 good strength workouts and 4 yoga sessions, so 1 extra yoga but 1 fewer strength sessions than planned. My running has been slowing down so my new goal for this week is to run or walk a minimum of 3 miles per day, do 2 strength workouts and 3 yoga sessions.

Have you come across the "Marcothon"? A challenge to run a minimum of 3 miles per day through December? It's what got me started on C25k last December. I modified it to do a walk or run every day and stuck to it. So I intend to do that again this year. I don't think my body would do well on running every day but 3 or 4 days running and the rest walking is do-able :) xx

roseabi profile image
roseabiβ€’ in reply toAPScotland

Sounds great! Good luck 😊😊😊

Cant remember if I joined this! But I’ve run almost halfway along Hadrian’s Wall (a virtual challenge) in less than half the allotted time.

However, I’m clobbered by fatigue at present. I don’t think I’ve managed more than 8k runs since my last 10k charity race last month, and a lot of my runs are sub 5k.

I’ve had all the tests and nothing is wrong except stress (have sold my house and bought another, and am now in the nail biting journey towards exchange of contracts), lack of sleep and breathing difficulties due to dog allergy, plus the cold air seems to make the breathing thing worse.

Looking forward to spring. I really don’t enjoy winter running, except on sunny, frosty mornings.

I planned to run 2 more 10k runs this month, and have done 3 (though the 2nd one was rubbish so I decided I had to do it again). Today's was so much better, even though I spent most of it being buffeted by wind and trying to avoid puddles and slippery mud.

It's been great to hear of everyone reaching lots of goals in November. I ran for the first time in nearly two weeks today and it felt great. Unable to meet any of those goals as I was unwell Its the first time since I started running that I haven't been able to run but I'm back now and ready for December!
