Consolidating Madness, with Gluteal Understanding

As my ARB has temporarily retired to the IC after her momentous 8.93k and visit to the Minor Injuries Unit last Thursday , my focus for the month of getting her to the far side of the Bridge has gone missing. Had a hard game of hockey (which thinking about it is just 70 minutes of unplanned fartlekking carrying a bent stick with a ball getting in the way occasionally :-) ) on Saturday, but it would have been so easy to rest up for the rest of the week.

But it was a glorious morning today so forced myself out to see if I could produce another 10k, or something like it. And it went well, with the first 9 splits within a couple of seconds of 5'25" and a final 5'08" (when I was sure I was slowing down and trying hard not to) to give a 53'45" PB for the run. Followed by a nice cappuccino in the usual café with Dexy.

And now I understand the glutes business. At one point I consciously tried to lift them - nothing doing. Then I tried letting them sag a bit - and was immediately aware I was running heavily on my heels. So when I was being sceptical about it :-( , it was actually because I've always run that way anyway :-) . So yep, I'm all for it now, lets all lift our bottoms and skateboard away into running heaven (I would have put lots of interesting emojis in that sentence but I'm using my computer which doesn't have them).

Onward and upward! I suppose I'm going to have to try going further sometime soon :-(

So well done on your galloping🤔PB and hope Dexy is progressing well.

Interesting about glute engagement. So that’s all that’s to it, lift and skateboard🤔👍

You are doing brillantly.

Well done on your PB, UTS! 😃❤️ Hope Eileen can return to running with you very soon. What’s an ARB? (Attached Running Buddy?)

My own husband keeps getting excited about ideas that using Glutes and doing speed intervals will some how speed him up even further. I suspect he also has naturally good technique...🙄

Thanks, and close, but I was thinking “Actual Running Buddy” 🏃🏽‍♀️

I suspect your OH will find the same as me, that his glutes are already carried as high as they will go 🙄

Well done on the glutes and the PB, UTS, I dream of km split times like that!!!! Maybe when my backside gets itself in a high enough gear and I ditch the surplus timber I'll be getting there 😂 All the best to Dexy5

Well done on your PB - and a very interesting post! I think I’ll look into glutes and skateboarding for my next challenge 😆! And hope Dexy is feeling better - I’m looking forward to congratulating her really soon! 😊🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Great pb uts. Yes the idea of a secret weapon in th closet awaiting to be discharged and release a hitherto unrealised burst of speed is very attractive. Unfortunately my genetics let me down, as a descendant of the tartan lot my glutes are are already extremely well engaged.

I guess that comes from chasing haggi round mountains anti-clockwise?

Must be uts 😁 as its certainly not from turning coal into diamonds 🤔💎

I've no wonder you've picked up your glutes, running at that speed, and as for hockey, well what can one say, except it's for tougher mortals than I - two minutes into any game at school and my stick had been whacked out of my weedy wrists by some amazon in shorts and t-shirt.
