Early morning run to finish week 4. I've tried to slow it down a bit but my legs seem to have a natural pace of about 6mins a kilometre. I've heard folk on here say you should do slow runs or different pace runs. I tried slowing down on my 5K run on Sunday last but my first bit was slowish but that gave me power at the end of the run to go quicker.
Is a run a run or should I go see a professional trainer for some advice . ☺️👍
'I can only run at this pace' or 'it feels wrong to go slower' are common responses from new runners. Chances are in 3 months time 6:00 will feel wrong.
The thing is, if you went and tried to run say 12k tomorrow, you'd get so far and then you'd find you were running at 6:30, then 7:00 then 7:30 assuming you just didn't give up after 8 because it was too hard. If you'd ran at 6:30 from the start you'd maybe have had the gas left to endure longer and make the longer distance. You may have been able to go quicker at times but you'd have had that fall back speed to recover if it started getting too hard.
Tell me this, when you run up an incline do you still go at 6:00? if not why do you slow down? Chances are so you can cope with the change conditions.
A slower gear is an important and useful tool for the accomplished runner and can be what you need when running longer or needing to recover. Without it, your only other gear is stop.
You’re making me feel better, Pink. As I increase distance, for now I get gradually slower and slower the further I go. Starting slower doesn’t really seem to help avoid this, but I hope to work on consistency more next. I can certainly claim to have a whole host of slower gears that don’t involve stopping, though! 😂😂❤️
I found that last week. Started slower and seemed to go of later in the runwoth more energy.
I will have a go at the running world item that Slow_Rob sent earlier today. I've just got to work it out first.
