Went out to do my 6-8k and did a 10k!!!! First in a month but nearly 2 minutes off my previous 10k PB! 1:08:40 It seems that a break between long runs and working on speed intervals and strength training works! Woohoo!

Great stuff, a fantastic feeling I bet to go and outperform your expectations. Note to self, must think through this speed and strengthening stuff properly, think I have a lot to learn from the grown ups

I’ve still got so much to learn but we’re only new runners. I only started in February so I’m still amazed at how far I’ve come. Still can’t get that bloody sub 30 5k - my main target 🙄

BerksroverGraduate10 in reply to Tasha99

Me too, but am sure we will crack it soon and in the meantime I also have the 10k to crack (hopefully in a tine a smidgeon quicker than Ripcurlrana71 😉)

Fabulous Tasha and a PB too! Missed commenting on the other post to motivate you - was at work :-(

Was it you who joined a running club or have I misremembered? x

It was although I’ve only been twice. I’m bottom of the middle group 😂 First time was fast 1k repeats. Second time we did a 10k stopping to regroup along the way. I enjoyed that and made some new buddies. But last week I went on a rest day when it was boiling. Disaster. Gave up after 5 minutes 😳 I’d done speed interval and strength work the day before. Big mistake. Wednesday is a tricky day for me so I don’t go weekly but it’s been nice to meet some runners and I see them out and about at other races too. Are you thinking to join one?

pianoteacher profile image
pianoteacherGraduate10 in reply to Tasha99

I've just joined one! I've done 2 10kms with them (sounds very similar to what you did) - one on the road, one cross country. I've just seen on Facebook they do speedwork on the track on a Monday night (I'm at work term time but Summer holidays are coming :-) ). Were the 1k repeats on the track? x

They were around a lake. A bit boring. I might go to there Tuesday morning sessions in the summer holidays. The main benefit was meeting people as I don’t have friends to run with except for my fab colleagues on ParkRuns. Luckily you don’t have to commit to mine. 50p a week too. Bargain. The running community is a small one - I see the same faces everywhere, and runners are so nice! Everyone appreciates how hard it is to run 😂

Yeah everyone I've met so far is really nice! Most of the group I go with are very fast (5:45 seems to be their very easy pace 😂) but they always wait for the couple of us that are slower and let us have a breather - I've really enjoyed what I've done so far.

Looks like the track training is from 350-650m in 2 minutes depending on how fast you are then a 2.5 minute jog x7. I have no speed in my legs so I reckon I'll be in the slow group but I might just go along and see what it's like. Old enough now to not be bothered about making a twat of myself 😂😂

Tasha99Graduate10 in reply to pianoteacher

You’re fast as though!

Not compared to them - one of the guys (much older than me) regularly runs parkrun sub20!!! He's lovely and I've have found myself running alongside whilst he chats away giving me loads of useful tips and I can't answer because I'm dying from lack of breath 😂

I got lost and went a new route so wasn’t so bad. Definitely need some back strength work though!

Well done. Your motivation has paid off in dividends x

He he he thank you! I’ve loved it! I’ve never run in my life! I’m not sure I enjoy it but I am addicted. My favourite thing is the ParkRun 😂 prefer 5k over 10k for sure. Defo not going to HM. Felt physically ill one time when I did 11k he he he. I need more core strength. But, never say never 😂
