My natural alarm clock woke me up at what I thought was 6.45 and not wanting to go back to sleep and leaving it too late to run, I was out of bed and downstairs for a large glass of water before any gremlins had a chance to scupper my plans of an early morning run. I made Mr R. a cuppa and returned upstairs to get into my running gear. He shuffled around and looked at the clock as I pulled on my shorts. “Do you know what time it is?” After a brief exchange about weather conditions he pointed out that it was actually only 5.55 and that I’d read the clock run. It must be a sign of age!
So this morning, another year older, and I’m displaying signs of confusion already. Turning down the suggestion of a lie in, I was in my kit so I might as well go out now anyway and at least I’d be out before the sun got to hot. I decided on the 1960s playlist this morning as I was born in 1964 and it seemed fitting for my birthday run and I was soon dynamically stretched (as dynamic as you can be at that time in the morning) and out the door.
It was lovely being out so early as it was cool, with plenty of shade and a refreshing breeze. After my overheated run on Saturday evening I was determined to enjoy this one. Obviously getting up so early had foxed the gremlins who must have still been enjoying their slumbers as they didn’t pop up once to put me off my stride.
And although another year older and wiser, I was also pleased to find that I’d also managed a personal best. 10k in 57 minutes! That was a birthday treat in itself.

Congratulations on a great run and Happy Birthday too!! it's always nice to banish the gremlins and have a decent run, particularly after the last run wasn't so enjoyable for whatever reason.
I know what you mean. 6 am is just sooo early, but as I was awake it seemed silly not to just get bout there and do it. I'm not sure I could cope with getting early for every run though. I admire the people who do!

I know. I did think that myself, but as he was still asleep and I was up and about it seemed silly not to. He did have a glass of ice and water ready by the door for my return and has taken me out for cappuccino and cake too. x

“Life in the old girl...”, not what my daughter thinks, she pointed out that I’m a step closer to 60. Bless her. Hubby loves it as since his birthday in March we share the same age, but now I’m older again! 😅
Good! My vest was meant to come today (perfect for tomorrow morning’s 4k) and the delivery people didn’t leave with a neighbour as I asked and took It to the post office, now shut 😭
In better news I just got chatted up at a bus stop which was a bit of an ego boost!

Thank you JaySeeSkinny . I'm a tad older than my other half, so from March to June we are the same age, but once I've had my birthday he loves to remind me that I'm now a year older than him. Cheeky young man!!
It was a fab day and the start of several as today after a good workout at the gym my friend had me round for a celebratory lunch, and tomorrow my daughter is cooking me a birthday dinner. Feeling spoilt.
It was a lovely day, but now can't decide what to run tomorrow. Not sure weather to attempt a long one in this heat (e.g. 18km) or to do a short 5km with fartleks.
If your heat is anything like ours then the shorter run might be a better way to go. Plus 32 here. I had to cut my last run short it was so hot.
Missed this yesterday, but wanted to say wowsa! What a great birthday! That's a brilliant time. That's just amazing. You're ages with my mum and I would love to see her lace up and come out running, but alas she says she'll stick to walking and is planning to do the West Highland Way.
I only took up running just under two years ago - had never done it before. And I'm completely hooked on it. But I love walking too, although not quite as adventurous as your mum. I would love it if my daughters would come running with me, but they refuse point blank.

My longest run has been 22km a couple of weeks ago, but in this hot weather I can’t face the longer runs. On Saturday I struggled with 10km when running in the afternoon so I was pleased I did it yesterday and with a PB.
