We are now starting the third week of the June Quest... how are we getting on with our challenges and goals?..... doing well I hope...
I have added a picture this week taken along the top of Mam Tor in Derbyshire, a route I have walked along a couple of times on holiday, it's somewhere I would love to run along and feel on top of the world! I hope I get the chance to do it one day....
Whether you are going on holiday and hoping to do some tourist running, or just trying to fit your running in when the temperature is reasonable, it's really important to keep hydrated, wear sunscreen, hats and sunglasses....Yes, more faff...๐ but we can do it and get out there and run this month.
I do hope you will join me to chat and share your goals and challenges.
What the Quest is;
The Quest takes one calendar month . You can join any point within that time.
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are completing the programme, your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and Strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice. Each week, I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you want to join, all you have to do is put;
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in and then, I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep.
Wishing you a happy healthy month x

That's a gorgeous picture Jan and looks like a dandy place to run. I love how now when I'm someplace different, I'm always thinking about what it would be like to run there ๐.
My quest is going good so far. I managed 3 runs last week: a friday 8.15 km speed workout that involved 8x2 minute fast intervals interspersed with 2 minute slow intervals after a 1 mile warm up slow run and a 1 mile slow run cool down; a lovely 7 mile (11.3 k) slower type run at the lake on Sunday, and a forced 3 mile run with 5 quick 20 sec spurts interspersed with 2 minute recoveries at the end on Tuesday. The last thing I wanted to do was run on Tuesday, but after reading Nwrkpak 's post that day, I knew I would feel better for it in the end. I set out hoping I'd get the 3 miles done and would see about the strides at the end bit by the time I hit 3k, I was in my groove, crossed over to a different area I hadn't run in a while and enjoyed what ended up being 6.5k. I'm enjoying the programme I'm following right now designed to increase my 10k pace - there's lots of variety and lots of shortish speed bursts worked in which are kind of fun. I'd like to think that's why my 10 year old son barely beat me in a 100m dash today (I posted about it in a separate post). I'm planning on an interval workout tomorrow and another 7mile run on Sunday but this one is run with a faster 5k ran in the middle of it. Should be interesting. I'll be at the lake again so might change it out for a trail run with some hills instead following part of the trails for my fall race. We'll see how I feel (and how bad the ticks are - my friend's daughter got a pile last weekend and saw a couple snakes on the trail I was thinking of hitting ๐ค, might have to rethink that)
This all sounds very positive and inspiring๐.... ( not the ticks or snakes obviously๐)
Sounds like your program is adding in plenty of variation, and you are adding in the variation of route, keeping it all fresh and interesting... kudos on all that effort๐....you are really stretching those legs now!
Langley-Loper has been doing an Asics plan I think, to improve her 10k. She has a race on Sunday and her posts on Strava show incredible results ( and a lot of hard work and determination).
I'm sure you will get fabulous results too for your race in the fall.
Good luck with this weeks runs, and I shall have a read of your post about the 100m dash against your son!
Have a great week๐xxx
I would love to run along the Great Ridge top from Mam Tor in the picture (who wouldn't?)its part of the Eadale horseshoe its wider than it looks in the photo, goes on for a couple of miles. Lovely views. Fell runners do the whole thing....( I would walk up the steps at the start๐)
So my aim is to go through Ju-Juโs 10k plan.... and so far itโs okay, apart from a minor tech fail today! I managed my 7k run on Monday, again outside. 4K on the treadmill on Wednesday at a faster speed than I had tried before. This morning I set off outside to do my 5k... I was enjoying my route, thought Iโd check my Fitbit for progress as it was a new route but I misread the display and read the steps as km... ๐ฉ. Didnโt realise my mistake until I got home and read the display properly. But... I had done just over 4km in my fastest time yet! I am really enjoying running outside, despite the heat and humidity. Now for a couple of rest days and 8k on Monday. I will check my Fitbit is on the correct mode before I set off!
Well done on your 7k run on Ju ju's program๐...I have misread my garmin too looking at the time run instead of the km's๐ .... you still had a good run though ๐and are on schedule...
Enjoy your weekend and Good luck with your 8k on Monday! You will do it...and yes, check your fitbit mode first!
Looking at that lovely picture, I never thought that running shoes would be an essential packing item for me. Iโm still sticking to my 3 runs of 5k each week . Trying to vary the routes and let pace and speed take care of themselves at the moment. This June challenge is helping me to embed running as a habit so thank you for the motivation.
Hi laurel, Well done to you for keeping up the three 5k runs, enjoying being able to run...and instilling the habit. Its funny how not being able to run for a few days makes us twitchy, and how good waking up on a run day feels๐....
Keep going out this week and enjoying your running and new routes!
Hi fellow Questers, since my fun 30 minute run last Friday morning, I have been on the ic (not running related)..so have had to watch all you lovelies out running and I have been enjoying reading your run reports...
I am hoping to get out tomorrow for a run or this evening if I can't wait...Hubby has his World Cup chart at his side with lots of footie to watch, so more chances for me to nip out for a quick run in the next few weeks...
I have entered a Virtual race for distance over the whole of July, I think its called FlaminGo and the bling is a Pink flamingo!
Sorry to hear you're on the IC but glad to hear it isn't running related and you'll be out running again soon. The bling for your virtual race sounds wonderful! Can't wait to see the bling! I'm doing a Canada d'eh virtual run on July 1st and the bling has Gord Downie from the Tragically Hip on it. I'm going to run with a friend and her daughter that day. Should be a fun 5k.
I wondered.... he's an iconic Canadian who died last year of a brain tumour. I have many fond memories of his music, especially during my university days, so couldn't pass this one up. I'll be posting a pikkie for sure! His biggest hits include Courage, New Orleans is sinking, Ahead by a century, Bobcaygeon, Blowin high dough to name a few. He has a pretty recognizable voice...even if you don't know the songs often you'll recognize the singer......at least for a Canadian ๐
Not a single yoga session... what *is* this all about?
The swimming has gone well, on target.
Lots of lovely stuff towards 30DaysWild, 5k run this morning which included a meadow with head height grasses (and calf height nettles and thistles) which was moderately fabulous.
Big wildlife weekend in view and I am packing my running shoes in hope of fabulousness.
Hi GoogleMe, you will get back to yoga when the fancy takes...but great news on the swimming front. Its a good all round workout, and refreshing too I imagine!
Does Google run ahead of you to clear a path? Oh no, forgetting, he's a dog๐๐...more likely zigzagging checking out scents or following on your heels...
Your Meadow run does have hints of fabulousism, but the nettles and thistles let it down a bit. Well done on a good distance run, on challenging ground.
Exciting news about your upcoming weekend with running shoes packed...we are waiting eagerly for the report...๐
Gorgeous, breathtaking view there Jan wow, you'd never want to stop running
My quest is to get off the chuffing IC!! Been about 3 months now, I can just about run for 30 mins - 4.5k and have done so once a week for about a month but that's all I've dared. I need to be brave and increase to 2 then 3 runs a week.
Hi Fishypieface,๐ we know you are brave and we know you can run...so fingers crossed you will make that extra run without any twinges... and build from there...
You are in the Quest lovely lady, and we will gently hold your hand as you move away from the ic, and get your confidence and stamina back...
So nice to have you onboard๐now we can really start to party!
Good luck with your goal!๐xxx
The picture... yes, it would be such an exhilarating run..something to dream about...x
Well I managed 5k in 36:33 which is a few mins slower than normal, but my hip didn't niggle until 25 mins, which is a great improvement on the last few runs. I feel like I've lost a bit of my fitness but not tooooo bad all things considered, it's been quite a long time.
I'm thinking of doing a couple of shorter runs twice in the week and a 5k on the weekend for the next few weeks. Then, all being well, hopefully I can extend the weekend run gently. I might work on speed on the shorter runs. Hopefully, this is the road back to 10k.... but I won't hold my breath! xx
Beautiful view BBr. Well not a very productive week for me. It has rained almost every day since our bathroom renovation started, except for Friday, but vinyl layer came, so shower and toilet out of action again. Back on track, now week 4 and 4km done today, 5km planned for Tuesday a beautiful new bathroom normal service will be resumed. Queen Lexi ๐๐ฝ
Well done on your 4k today, glad you managed to get out for your run, and onto Wk4, ticking along nicely...
Your beautiful new bathroom will be worth all the disruption I'm sure, hope you get some nice relaxing soaking done...๐ฟ๐๐ท๐ after your 5k run๐ and get to wear your ๐๐xxx
Have managed to continue running on alternate days. Body felt a bit reluctant after work during the week, but ran with Speed podcast on Tuesday and Stamina on Thursday all the same. However had a fantastic run this morning, where everthing felt good, covering 8k in well under an hour and setting a PB along the way for 5k.
No sure whether to plan for another 10k next weekend- think I will see how it goes.
Great news Debs๐...well done too on your speedy 8k! We will wait to see if you decide a 10k is on the cards next weekend ๐xx have a good week and Happy running ๐ xx
My quest to Increase pace/distance. I surprised myself by running 7k last week after being stuck in 5k! Also started Jujuโs 10K plan yesterday. My 3k pace has been improved too!! ๐
Ran Saturday and Monday and had planned a longer run for this evening. Mapped out a new route which should be around 8k...
Woke up today with stabbing pain in my side..it seems the short course of antibiotics last week didn't fix me and Im back on the ic. Doc says I'm not well and need to rest ๐...five days more of antibiotics hopefully will do the trick..
Will do that run soon I hope...
Take care everyone and good luck with your Quests๐x
