The Shady Runners Quest week 2 - Feel free to join

Hi fellow Questers welcome to week 2

As the sun is shining right now most of us will be finding little spots of shade as we run. It will be interesting to see at the end of the Quest if we are still looking for shade or ducking under the trees to ward off the rain. πŸ˜€.

Now, what has everyone been up to this week, and you can still join us if you have just Graduated and would like some motivation....

I do hope you will join me to chat and share your goals and challenges.

What the Quest is;

The Quest takes one calendar month . You can join any point within that time.

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are completing the programme, your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and Strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice. Each week, I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you want to join, all you have to do is put;

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in and then, I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep.

Wishing you a happy healthy month x

One very short run for me this week, I am struggling a bit with my feet and energy. I did manage my core class and a swim so not a total wipe out. Hoping for better results this week. Happy running everyone.

Well I only got 2 runs in last week but they were quality runs. I did a 13.3 km run with 2 x 1 km trail hills worked in and a 6.3 km full trail β€œrun” (I’ll use the word run loosely, I probably hiked more than I ran, in all reality) yesterday. This week should be a good one. I’m on holidays and spending it all at the lake. I am hoping to β€œrun” the trails every other day, keeping my distances shorter (under 10k) given the difficulty of the runs.

3 runs done in week 1 of the quest but that was the easy week. A 'normal' week at work, no travelling or away days.

10k completed this morning ( a very hot one) - I have now acquired a very expensive running cap .

My normal routine is now interrupted for the next 2 weeks. 1 week of holiday followed by 4 days in the office and then major family gathering for my son's 18th! Then plan is still to get 5 or 6 more runs in July.

Having acquired the running hat this week my next piece of kit is a water bottle. Ran for the first time today carrying a bottle of water with screw on top. I think I wore more of the water than I drank.

Happy running.

Wearing the water is probably quite a clever strategy.

Good first week of questing for me. Ran with the club, did two kettlebell workouts (boy they made me ache :-) ) and did a fast km in my short run. Took nearly 30 secs off my previous best but not expecting to do much more than that - will be very happy just to go sub 5 by the end of the month.

Good luck to everyone with whatever you've chosen to do x

Hi everyone, I am pleased with my first week of July. I got out for two runs, one short and quick, one longer one with a couple of walk breaks, and a reasonable walk. These count towards my activities for my virtual challenge and give me 21.1k distance so far.

I have had a couple of ice creams, not much wine and no cake!!!

Happy running and Questing 😊xx

May I belatedly join please. I am increasing distance again while maintaining a 3x per week routine. I'd like to keep going out 3x per week and perhaps have a 5k back under my belt by the end of the quest. Even if the monsoons finally come...

Finished Wk5 R1 JuJu’s 10K plan and Roseabi’s Speed Challenge.

Sorted out my short dash across the ridge to the macular society HM summit.

First one ever for me, but I have had my eye on the prize for sometime now and feel I have put some solid sensible work in.

Here is my route to the summit,

Date. Type. Laps. Km. Mins.

11/7. H. 5. 14. 140.

15/7. E. 6. 16.8. 168.

18/7. H. 6. 16.8. 168.

22/7. E. 7. 19.6. 196.

25/7. H. 7. 19.6. 196.

28/7. E. 8. 22.4. 224.

Hope my little table does not go walk about, but I will need to get my boots on.

Have a good week everyone.Stay cool.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’₯

Everything reasonably on track I'd say - the right distances for swimming and running, not ahead of myself but not behind... Yoga not every day but several times. Apart from the weight which was looking promising and now isn't...but that's only a week and we're only talking about one or two kilos.

Bit of a wake-up in the middle of the week when I struggled to get dressed after a short swim, struggled even more to get up the ramp from the pool to the car and only a filthy kitchen floor was enough to get me to summon the energy to slump on a chair rather than lie on it. I had nothing left. The pool had been beautifully quiet and I always want to make the most of that and push on to my middle or longer distance. So glad I didn't.

I hope you are feeling better now Googleme and your next visit to the swimming pool will be less exhausting. Sounds like a tough balance to strike...

I'd like to join!

I graduated C25K at the end of April, but was on the IC for 2 weeks in May with a bad back (not running related...) and have been playing safe and only doing 2 runs a week since then. I've taken up Pilates to work more on my core and I've set myself the challenge of getting back up to 3 runs a week.

How does that sound?

Welcome onboard, your name has been added. Fingers crossed for the MRI. Aqua jogging sounds great. When I did hydrotherapy it was amazing how much the muscles got worked in the water. Good luck.

Thanks you x It is the waiting that is hard!

It was your hydrotherapy in the ghostly poolπŸ˜‰ that made me think of aqua jogging!

I didn't join the Quest from the outset as I just didn't know what my goals would be. They evolved last month and this month has been no different. I've been waiting to hear when I'd have to go in for surgery, so that threw a spanner in the works and then I wasn't sure if I was ready for the 10K plan as I wasn't sure how long to consolidate.

I'm pleased to report I was absolutely ready and in fact I enjoy the longer runs at a slower pace to the speedy shorts.

My op date has now come through so this is the final week of uninterrupted running.

I've been told no strenuous exercise for at least a week and having read a diary of someone who's had the op, it might be longer than I'd initially hoped before I'm back on track.

So, my revised Quest is to graduate this week so I can focus on recovery next week. Then I aim to re-engage in ju-ju-s plan when I'm comfortable and at a level I can manage, possibly week 4.

I can't aim for more than that for July and if I manage that I'll be thrilled. 😊

Am I a bit late? Not unusual...I achieved my first full 5k @ Parkrun on Saturday and I intend to keep consolidating for a while to just run for the fun and will probably do Parkrun every Saturday unless there is something else in the diary. I am getting to know a few of the other runners of my pace, which is great. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Yes I think it’s the community spirit of the Parkrun that I like.

Well my start to the quest was a bit rubbish - running has really been sabotaged by the monster that is the Summer Term - which involves dreaded reports, school productions, new parent meetings, summer fayres etc etc.

However did managed two runs - two 6.5ks one a steady flat run at the reservoir on the way home from work and one a woodland ramble with some hill training thrown in on Saturday.

Am hoping to do better this week and have started as I mean to go on with interval training this evening - though it's another horrid work week.....
