Headbands, 70's retro chic or No go?

Anybody rocking a headband? Now the hotter weather is here I find myself mopping my brow, except I no longer carry tissues as my nose doesn't run as much in the warm and I don't have a jacket on to put them in. So have ordered some sweatbands for the retro look.

I'm never without a Buff these days. I have too much hair and can't deal with it flapping about all over my face. I've tried Hygge bands, but they are very tight and make me look like Axl Rose—Buffs seem to avoid that issue.

I wear a wrist sweatband Mike, does the job for me 😊

I have buffs and headbands. Only worn buff in minus temperatures to warm my breath. Not used headband yet. Do you not get a hot head wearing a head band? I haven’t braved it yet 😂

I generally fold my buff of choice into 4 and then gather it at the back with a ribbon to stop it unfolding, and pop it on my head and over my ears as a band. I don't seem to get hot in them, though it's not summer yet I suppose...time will tell! I don't feel it when I'm running though and it is never too soggy when I get home. Though I'm not a very sweaty person in general.

Might try it. Thanks. I’m sweaty!

When I first started running it was my trademark... a bright orange headband.... I loved it...!!

What happened to it? Did it rot away?

No I just stopped wearing them. I had a neon orange, red and black panther one. I’ll dig them out again!!!

Thanks.. I just wish I had his physique :)

I don't sweat much, even in the heat, just a bit under my fringe, but not a problem. I too have a buff, but wear it round my neck or on my head in winter.

Unless you have hair like McEnroe in the 80s I would say go for it!

Watch out for the permanent white halo due to suntan/ no suntan 😎

I would say no headband or sweatband under any circumstance other than in a race that requires one for number identification

Yep! Love my headband, although I wear it more to keep my hair out of my face with the added bonus of catching my sweat! 🤢

Wrist bands too - they are for the sweat!

I have one of the previously mentioned Hygge bands, but mainly for keeping my hair out of my face rather than sweat collection!

Sad to admit that I have 2 headbands (not a la knopfler) but I have long unruly hair that drives me crackers, so the headband is a ponytail band, you pull you hair through and that's it, no frizz, in the face, also seems to keep earbuds in place.

I have a ponytail beanie hat for colder weather, which during the minus 6 run that I did, the headband was on under the beanie 😰

No headband, but I use a buff on my wrist which in the summer (or any temp above 14C) I soak in cold water so it's refreshing and I can wipe the sweat off my face :D

I have tried using my buff as a headband but I have quite a small head. I do know that I do not look good when I run, and I accept this, but even I will not deliberately make myself look even worse when out running!

You know you can get slightly smaller 'ladies' buffs?

The thing is though that anything that flattens my hair against my head is Not A Good Thing. O vanity :(

Ah yes, your hair has body!

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

No, it hasn't - I would love big hair :D but seriously, me in a buff or a bandanna is a Tena-moment :D

Anniemurph profile image

Oh, and a hanky safety-pinned down the front of my top to deal with a runny nose caused by sudden pollen issues. Running is such a stylish, elegant pastime!

LiisaM profile image
LiisaM in reply to Anniemurph

Ach! Runny noses are the pits! I am constantly blowing my nose in tissue kept in a pocket or tucked in my waistband while running and it's hard to keep a proper rhythm....

No but I have just invested in a visor hopefully that will help me in this warmer weather! 😎🌞

I use this in warm weather and the Adidas Adizero hats in the winter. They do an outstanding job keeping the sweat out of my eyes and they're washable. amazon.com/gp/product/B01MZ...

I may have to investigate the visors.. shame you look so daft wearing one. Almost feel they need to be obligatorily paired with a fanny pack and white socks.

Finished a half marathon in Cincinnati last Sunday, with no fanny pack or white socks in sight. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid...

While researching Hygge bands I came across this post. Don't you know fanny packs are back in vogue? After 20+ years in the fashion wilderness I am back on trend. They even sell them in New Look! Can't wear one running though due to a sweaty middle and irritating bouncing of keys etc.

I sometimes use those visors. They keep the sun out of your eyes but allow the heat to escape your head......win/win!

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to Millsie-J

Yeah I think I will try one. The under armour ones have an integrated sweatband so double win. Thinking a headband looks too strong a look for me to pull off.

I've got some Seasalt Cornwall Handybands. You can use them as a scarf, a hairband or more of a hat or wrap around your wrist. Very soft and comfy and great for sweat :-)
