Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Hi damienair & (not) park runners and park runners,
No park run today but I did run a (not) park run within my 4miler. I can never manage negative splits at park run, so that was today’s goal for the first 5k.
6.22, 6.15, 6.10, 6.06, 6.01
Not as satisfying as a sub 30 or running ParkRun, but still a run to complete my weekly mileage & negative split goal achieved 👍🏻
Good morning Damien and fellow runners! Our last morning in Spain and we were back in Blanes where we started our adventures just over 3 weeks ago. The forecast was 80% chance of rain but it was a lovely morning, sun just appearing, dry, still and I did the exact same route along the prom. Time 32.55 compared with 33.52 3 weeks ago. Now for a few nights at our house in France before we return to the UK mid week. Happy running 🏃♀️ 🏃🏻♂️
Another first time this week. Went down to Hassop to try the monsal trail parkrun. Trying not to push too hard as it's the Ashbourne seesaw tomorrow and I'm on the 10 mile race but when I stop concentrating I inevitably speed up. Turned it into a pretty decent progressive run with the final k being a definitely way too fast 4:17! Will see if my legs are mad at me tomorrow. Let's hope not. Excellent cafe at Hassop so if you're ever there definitely make a pit stop after.
I got to run at home today! It feels like the first time in ages! I ran for International Womens Day in my purple Ghost 14 ‘Wendy & Lisa’ shoes and I wore blue and yellow on top in support of Ukraine.
They have nearly finished the path works at last so it was practically a normal course today. Lots of nice fresh tarmac will make it extra fast once it’s all cleared up. I was very pleased to see my watch show a 2022 pb at 27:28 especially as I’ve been feeling very sore and creaky all week after a HM on sunday.
Tailwalking next week. I’ve never done it before and i’m not sure if i’ll like it but I’m in excellent company with Shake-and-run so we can have a good natter.
Thanks JP 😀. It feels like it’s taken ages. As soon as they nearly finished one bit, they started on another. Only a tiny bit blocked off today that was easily diverted around thankfully. At least we weren’t like Fulham Palace parkrun, they are cancelled for months due to their paths being done. We only cancelled the once which I think is pretty good going.
A great run for you TC and I’m sure you’ll enjoy Tailwalking next week, it’ll be a mite slower than your usual parkrun time but, as you, say - who doesn’t love a walk in the park and a matter!
Nearly face planted at park run this morning! 🤦🏼♀️Fortunately I saved myself & reached out to the lady in front of me who was fortunately someone who has seen me going to pick up my nephew from school! In the last year he face planted at school & hurt his lip. I think she thought I was about to do the same!
This morning I traveled to Dublin for some parkrun tourism. It was a beautiful frosty calm spring morning. The frost was only still in the shadows as the air warmed up. I ran at Porterstown parkrun and it was a typically lovely friendly parkrun. It was a 3 lap course around a city park which was busy with Children's sporting events and training. This was parkrun number 92 for me. Due to work which has been very busy since last week and the week before, a lot of traveling, meetings etc I have not ran since last weeks parkrun. So I was happy with my time today of 31:24 finishing in 80th place. I ran the last 2 kilometers with a lovely lady in a purple V25 T-Shirt. After the finish there was a little tent with free tea and coffee. Another one done and back to running this week.
Happy International Womens Day to all you lovely Ladies. Have a lovely weekend.
Good morning Damien, I was looking forward to a quick parkrun time today for my 37th, however, not long after I started the run my right heal went sore suddenly, I did not want to hobble round the course so I slowed my pace, I did complete the run in a time of 35.53,, it's a bit annoying when anything like that happens but can't be helped, anyway I was "happy" to complete it sub 40 minutes.
So do I Damien, my heal went sore suddenly on Wednesday 15 minutes after I completed my 90th (not) parkrun, I am not blaming the run as this has happened before but never running, however, it does slow me down when running.
Yes JP, as I am now increasing my midweek run by 1K a week in preparation for the London Vitality Virtual 10,000, I want to run them in a reasonable time and not having to run slowly every time I go out a run, it's not too bad walking or running slowly but when I try to speed up, ouch😢
PS, just a matter of interest JP, after my run I was speaking to a lot of my friends at Dunfermline Parkrun, after I said goodbye to them I walked up to the bus station, got on the bus which was packed, it's still the same timetable as at the peak of the pandemic, I was last on the bus, passengers behind me had to wait 30 minutes for the next bus, the bus was 7 minutes late in leaving but was on time by the time I got home because it passed many stops leaving many at those stops waiting for another 30 minutes, so I was very lucky in getting home on time.
Thanks Doris8, it hurts a bit if I walk fast or run a little fast, but I can run slowly, I am more annoyed of what happened this morning, perfect running conditions, no ice but seeing many people that I usually pass but them passing me🤣, they are very nice people and when they saw me limping a little bit on the last 20 metres I told them that I got a sore heel during the run.
I have just got a email from ClassicFM, there is a new program starting called---guess what:- "From Couch to Opera" ha, I wonder who thought that title up, it's to introduce non opera people to listen to popular operas like Carmen.
Well done on your time Al despite that heel. Look after it, grumbling insertional Achilles? A nice foot soak might help, I’ve just started doing that, it seems to help a bit.
Thanks TailChaser, it's a lot better this morning, I have just come back from a slow 8K walk, non the worse, took it at a easy pace, for example Mapmywalk told me at 3K my time was 37 minutes, yesterday my 5K time at parkrun was just under 36 minutes, so I took my Sunday morning walk slow and steady.👍🚶
Hello all, a very late night with bubbles , red wine and port. Not the best way to do a parkrun but I had to be there as I had the tokens and it was Oldgirlruns 50th volunteer. Chatted to a man with a dog and made sure he was aware of new rules from 1 April, chatted to a man on hols from Cairns Australia, and cheered on some running buddies. It has to be said, a bit of walking took place but I ran better than expected, all things considered. A big breakfast with the gang followed.
Red wine, Bubbles and Port are classic fuel ⛽️ substances for parkrun. Very very important to be well hydrated. No better way to blow off the Saturday morning cobwebs than a 5K run.
Sounds like you did really well in the circumstances Dexy 😁 I bet the breakfast helped! Looking at your stats earlier, I can think of another reason that’s helping you to go to the next couple of parkruns 👍👍👍
HI Damienair, I should have run a 5k this morning, solo, as my 2nd run of week 4 of the magic plan. I got as far as the car and decided against it. It was grey and starting to drizzle ever so slightly.... But as I felt tired anyway (after listening to the world service for too much of the night) I gave up and de- kitted. There is always a tomorrow.
Hi everyone, 13th Parkrun today. A gloomy looking Lowestoft but at least the rain held off. A good turn out of 359 participants. A finish of 36.47 which I was pleased with. Looking forward to brighter and slightly warmer Parkruns soon!
It may well be. The next closet ones to Lowestoft are Gorleston, Great Yarmouth and Harleston I think. I wouldRecommend giving it a try one time. We’re a friendly bunch at Lowestoft and the volunteers are fab 😊
I’d like to try Sizewell. I’d be very surprised that you were the oldest. We have a gentleman at Lowestoft who is in his eighties and has done over 200 Parkruns. I’ve just looked at today’s results and there was quite a lot in their seventies. And even if you were, it doesn’t matter! You’re there and taking part and that’s what matters! You can look at the Sizewell results page and see the spread of ages if that helps. Best of luck!
A few tourists at Portsmouth Lakeside this morning. I had to give a couple some directions half the way round -and it's not a complicated course! Other than that, fairly uneventful with sub- 6 min splits and 29.19 to finish.
From my recollection of Portsmouth Lakeside, I’m not sure directions were needed Jonathan! 😅 Lucky for the couple you were there to point them in the right direction though and we’ll done on your sub 30. 🥳
Second ever park run for me today after my first one a couple of weeks back. Felt like I was keeping a steady pace as normal but improved to 34:30 from over 36 minutes last time out. May try starting further up the queue next time, lots of runners same distance in front of me all through the run!
Late check-in today. Just back from a couple of satisfying trips to the tip (you can tell I don’t get out much! 😅)
Jenny (my daughter) and I treated ourselves to our favourite Severn Bridge PR this morning. The wind was cheeky again, coming from the northwest, but it cleverly managed to be a headwind in both directions! A chilly wind too. 💨 🥶
Jen’s watch was at 1%, (rooky error not making sure it’s fully charged beforehand) so I hastily helped her download Strava. She knows the rules - the run wouldn’t have counted otherwise! 😅
She came in at 29:46 (29:40 Strava) and I managed 34:58 (34:50 Garmin). Perfectly acceptable time for me due to my dire training of late. Jen was pleased with hers. 😀
The bridge was closed eastbound, so we couldn’t go for our usual Severn View Services coffee. Instead we sampled Magor Services and I approved of my cinnamon brioche bun! 😋 A Bristol PR (but which?) next time as I have a busy weekend coming up next week, including a race on Sunday! 🥳
I love filling the car for a tip trip. Makes me feel I'm in control of all this clutter....briefly. Having lived in the same cottage for 40 years and with sheds too many to count,( do you include green house, plastic bubble, tree mansion, Wendy house, old caravan etc?) there is just too much 'stuff'...and we love skip diving!
Plas Heli Park Run cancelled, so I did a Non-Park Run down to the next village, across a track towards a favourite Friendless Church, St Cynhaern's, Ynyscynhaern, and back up the hill, with a short detour along a muddy field !
Took me 37 minutes... First 1K downhill, 8.39, leaden legs, Last K uphill...6.14....breakfast calling :).
friendsoffriendlesschurches... are all quite different and quite beautiful.. we walk or cycle or run to this regularly...we have visited most of them on the Llyn Peninsula and a little further North... my Race for Life last year, at Caernarfon went past this one...
No.. they are just spectacular there is one that is a copy of a church In Florence; his wife had it built in memory of a priest who worked in Florence . It is quite surreal... however the graveyard around it is slightly eerie...
Church in Wales... Mirrors the same church in Florence
Such a shame your parkrun was cancelled. Nowster was saying it was down to a lack of volunteers? Hopefully it will pick up once the holiday season gets back in swing? Looks like you had a lovely run anyway, good time on that terrain as well 😀👏👏👏
I had planned to go to Hafan Pwllheli parkrun this morning (and possibly see Oldfloss there).
It was cancelled due to not having enough volunteers.
I had a lie-in instead and got out at the slightly later time of 10.35am and did a loop starting from where I'm staying near Aberdaron.
A lovely bright morning but with a chill breeze on higher ground. A little traffic to contend with, including two delivery vans almost getting into an impasse on a single-track road.
Time was 26'07" (5'31", 5'26", 5'06", 5'12", 4'51"). No tree cover, so the GPS will be pretty accurate.
The daffodils are blooming here. They're still just stalks in Manchester.
A country lane in NW Wales. Telegraph poles and a bridge over a stream in the distance.
Such a shame nowster, it’s such a different course but not as tough as some of the other beach parkruns. I’m not going to say it’s lovely because it’s running on sand! Some great challenging runs round there though, nice splits!
Pity your parkrun was canceled. Just goes to show how important it is to volunteer ever once in a while. Great running and very well done on your great finish time. I was in Manchester last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I didn’t get a chance to run though.
Just so delighted to actually be able to run parkrun again. Almost 6 months on from my hip replacement I have reached the point where I can actually run most of it, subject to a couple of short walking breaks. The hip isn’t a problem. The impact on my fitness from the pre- and post-surgery periods is taking a while to work through. Performance wise, I am back to where I was in late 2019, when the hip problem was first starting to break into my running. So I hope to continue improving.
Haven't run this week due to a shocking cold. So I did a slow 4K on my own at 11am to see how I felt. No great times, but no trouble with breathing after a snotty week, so I'll be back on it on Monday. Looking forward to next week's PR already. Hopefully our "water features" will have dried up a bit by then!
Hi damienair! Dexy’s just reminded me that I haven’t posted yet so I’d better get on with it before I fall asleep on the sofa again😆! I thought I’d volunteer today as I’d reached a nice round number - 50! And with her usual flair for a celebration, Dexy made me a sign to wear round my neck so there was no hiding it! But it was nice to get a shout out from the RD in his briefing! An excellent breakfast to follow with the usual crew and we were also joined by our event volunteer coordinator which was nice. Dexy and I stoked up with the full English before accompanying UpTheStanley to Fratton Park to watch his beloved Accrington Stanley rather sadly get flattened by Portsmouth FC. But it was a great parkrun day with wonderful friends and I’ll be ordering my bright new red T-shirt before too long I hope! Happy running folks!
Congratulations and very well done on your 50th Volunteer Day. Brilliant and isn’t it great that there is a milestone T-Shirt for it too. That sounds like it was a perfect parkrun day.
All PRs need people like you OGR. Yet again Eastville was on their knees begging for more this week, and we’re not a small one at consistently 400+ runners. So many don’t bother. 🙄😠
Thanks cheeky, it does seem to be a struggle sometimes doesn’t it? For me, I get as much enjoyment volunteering as I do running - all the fun without the effort😆!
Parkrun #7 for me. The big difference this week was the number of runners - over 340 - and also Parkrun teamed up with This Girl Can to welcome more women to Parkrun for International Womens Day. They handed out purple T-shirts and water bottles to all women who had registered. It was great to see so many women involved.
I had to make a quick exit after the run to go to work. I turned up to work in my running gear but was able to make a change into something more appropriate! My run went OK - 22:55 and negative splits so I can't complain.
Parkrun and This Girl Can teamed up to promote the involvement of women in Parkrun.
Unfortunately ours was cancelled again so I thought I would still go out for a 5km run . So I set off with good old Coach Bennett for company in my ear, setting off at exactly the same time as all ParkRuns 9am. Thought it would be interesting to see if I could still do a fairly good time even though I don't have my normal ' pacers' Infront. It always makes me laugh when coach Bennett says on the last km' release the kracken!' as I usually don't have anything more to release but somehow find that extra spurt ! Was quite pleased I did it in 26 mins, 50. 😁🏃♀️
Hi there,Some parkrun tourism for me this week at Greenwich course.Back doing C25k from beginning after about a year break from running.Currently on Week 3, day 3.It’s going according to plan👍I really enjoy visiting different places to run
