Still suffering with my with calf strain and not yet started the plan. Utterly despondent. But happy the weather is so lovely! Best take my name off the list, ju-ju. Cannot see myself being able to run for a while. 🙁
Oh rotten eck! It could take three weeks from that to mend, or four. you can keep icing it regularly with your foot raised - not too raised though I used my husband’s TENS machine on my calf tear and I reckon it did it good. It could have been a combo of things but you like to feel you’re doing something to help yourself as it makes you feel more positive! 💪👍🙂
It will heal but it will take time. I did have a few false starts before finally giving in and letting it heal properly
So, you sit this one out and do the next one. Or maybe you can pick it up in a few weeks See how it goes 🙂
Thanks misswobble, it is so frustrating. Not really that painful, but I worry it will turn into a proper tear if I run. 🙁 I have had a couple of false starts - took 8 days off running, it felt completely fine (tested it by jumping on the spot - no pain). Off I went, had a lovely run, next day, slightly sore again. Meh.
Will start with the old icing tonight. And maybe two weeks of not running. Aaaaaagh. So miserable. 😢
Sorry to hear about your calf. I'm feeling similarly despondent with an ankle ligament problem and physio says I need to strengthen ankles & hips before I run again. I hope I'll make it to 10k this year but am worried about losing my running mojo. Hope your calf strain rapidly improves and you're back out there soon. X
Thanks Slinky - and sorry to hear of your woes too. Poor us! Try not to worry - even if mojo temporarily takes a holiday, you will get it back again. I do know how you feel, though, totally. Focus on your strength work, you will get there! And we WILL make it to 10k this year. Hope your ligament is healed soon too. I thought I was a patient person, but clearly am not! 😟 xxx
Oh no, poor you. Oodles of sympathy available from me. Having had to sit out the previous two or three cycles of this program I know how frustrating it is. But you will come back. This morning I ran 7k. I'm sure I enjoyed it all the more because of the enforced break. Before you know it - you'll be out there too, stronger than ever, mojo intact
Thanks Ju-Ju. I'm being religious about the exercises & at least I've learnt that certain types of terrain (steep cambers) don't suit my feet & knees that turn inwards!
Oh no, poor you. Oodles of sympathy available from me. Having had to sit out the previous two or three cycles of this program I know how frustrating it is. But you will come back. Apologies if I'm repeating myself, but I made a schedule for my comeback based on ju-ju's 10k plan - it started with just three ten minute runs every other day, I then built this up over a period of 13 weeks (I counted from the date the next 10k program was due to start) so I ended up at the program start point of 2.5k, 4.5k and 5k. All the way through I had a short run, a medium run and a longer run. It worked really well for me. Although I was starting again from scratch, it was a new plan, I knew what had to be done each day (barring minor tweaks depending on how my hip was doing) and this was enough structure to make me feel I was achieving something even though I had effectively gone backwards. This morning I ran 7k. I'm sure I enjoyed it all the more because of the enforced break. Before you know it - you'll be out there too
Thanks Linda. 😘 It does feel a bit two steps forward, three steps back right now! And just as the weather has picked up, too. You are right though, sometimes we benefit from an enforced break. I just miss it so much, especially as running is my “medicine” and keeps me on an even keel of emotions. Your plan for building up again sounds fab. I I have another week on the IC again and then I will test the waters with a gentle 10 min jog. If it comes back again after that, it’s the physio for me! Thank you for your kind sympathy, means a lot. x
I finished week 2 today. 5k on Tuesday, 3k with speed intervals added on Thursday and my first ever 6k run today. It was a great running week for me! I took a new route today to help with the repetitiveness and it really helped. I had to really slow down and push to keep going for that last 1km but happy I was able to do it! A little nervous about stretching that to 7k for week 3.
I have a quick question if you see this. I accidentally ran approximately 6.5k for my 5k run. Doing 7k tomorrow. For my short run, should I still go for 3.5k or cut it back to 2k? I'm wondering how important my weekly total is. Thanks
I managed my week 4 plan with an 8k run at the end. It was a hard slog and I felt a slight niggle in my right knee afterwards. So I have taken a 3 day break and hope my next run 4K will go smoothly. So far, so good.
Yay! week 3 ticked off. I start each week with the longer run, then I feel the other two are simply recovery runs (no pressure for the end of the week then, I'm very easy to fool ). 7K is the furthest I've ever run. I'm almost looking forward to week 4 ...
