I very rarely see anyone with them at our parkrun, there is a thread on the link below :

You'll be surprised how nice it is to to run without music and enjoy the atmosphere of the run! π
I've only done one Parkrun as Saturday morning doesn't suit me. I ran with earphones in, I wasn't the only person running with them in.
Thankyou π
I always run with earphones and music, but then I always run alone. I wear them at the gym too but I find the minute you put them in you lock yourself away from contacting the world, people look at you differently and respond to you in the environment differently. As parkrun is such a social place and activity, I'd really try to make your first one a first time without the tunes. You will be fine without
Ok thankyou πi will have to give it a go π
Yes! I do my third weekly C25k session in ParkRun. I need headphones on. Also canβt run without music!
Ah ok...i am the same...cant stand it without!!!
Itβs stand-offish though. Itβs like asking people not to engage with you, which is a shame
I dont think anyone would mind but just consider if everyone did it π
I do it but only with one earphone in, so I can chat /listen to fellow park runners.
Isnt it funny, I cant run WITH music, it makes me feel cut off from my surroundings. I think Hidden βs solution of only one earphone is brilliant - best of both worlds.
I find the sound of my feet & heavy breathing off putting & need the beats of the music for motivation...but i know that people who tend to run off the beaten track or in the lovely countryside tend not to as it takes away from the nature around them.
Lol, in my case it takes away from the sound of the traffic! I wear On Running shoes and they are light as a feather and very quiet so that helps. The puffing doesnt happen now, except if Im very fatigued and going up a very steep hill. But even then not much. It all eases in time. I shant be trilling along the country hilltops till it all dries out. Once getting my feet in over my ankles in mud, trying to negotiate gates where cattle had trodden the mud into a swamp, and sliding down muddy hillsides was enough for me π³
I am not suprised!!!i think thats probably an entirely different sport ππ€£
As others have said, the Parkrun website asks you not to and I think it's good to run without music for a change, makes me feel more connected to the experience (though I haven't done one for a few months)
Like others , I too run with just one earplug in.
Good luck with it. I'm doing my first park run next saturday
Thankyou...good luck for yours too π
I always run with my earphone in.
Thanks...i dont think i will be able to do it without!!!
Perfectly acceptable. I always do and so do many others. The Parkrun has all abilities, shapes and sizes .
Iβve only done one Parkrun as I work on Saturdays which is a pity! I went alone and chatted to a couple of people before it started. Once I got going I popped my earphones on as I was running on my own! I think if I was doing another I wouldnβt bother as Iβve got used to running without music now. I did notice others with them. I think do whatever you feel comfortable doing! Good luck! ππββοΈ
Thankyou π
So, did you run with or without music? I did my first ever parkrun today too and always run with music or zombies or an audio book but went naked today. It was OK as I spent so much time dodging others and listening to them panting I didn't miss my earphone.
I too only ever run with one in so I can hear approaching traffic etc.
I did my first one last week, without headphones (I normally wear them on every run).I was the last person to finish, and all the way through, people gave me encouragement. The marshal at the back also talked to me as we went along. Might be worth trying without the headphones the first time, to get the atmosphere.
I ended wearing them as there were others also.listening to music.still got the atmosphere.i think once i have done it a few times i will try without π
I tend to use them when running on my own but Parkrun? No, I like to chat with others on the way round, takes your mind off the pain π
