A little update. Might be useful for some

I think we might of got to the bottom of what might of happened to make things go from urgh to what on earth yesterday and might be relevant to those running longer distances.

I go through times in my life when I am very intolerant to sweeteners. I have been this way ever since the op this year and strangely enough that intolerance was transfered with the kidney. Which has made it very hard for MrRfc to find a tonic to go with his Gin😀.

Somewhere after Tower Bridge I took on some free Lucozade Sport. Unbeknown to me this product now has the addiction of sweeteners in it. Why O why they have to put sweeteners in a product you are drinking for energy is beyond me. I have known for a while that most non diet fizzy drinks have the addition of sweeteners in because I found out the hard way.

So this will of contributed to my demise around that mark as well as given me the intense hangover symptoms that I have had today, including the throwing up this morning. I am pleased that I found out because I was just about to swear off ever doing a HM again.

I have had Lucozade before but not since the op so it never occurred to me that they would give you a product with artificial sweeteners in it.

A timely reminder to not have anything you haven’t trialed before in an event. Sorry to hog with two posts today but thought it was worth the update.

Rfc x.

Very useful advice , Rfc...sweeteners in everything...! Hidden ingredients make life tricky sometimes! Often with dire results.

I am hoping you are feeling a lot better this evening :)x

Feeling on the mend. I was actually quite worried this morning, it all makes sense now.

Good detective work Rfc, I thought it a bit odd that you had such a severe down turn.....just shows you how the tried and tested is the best rule, and that even a small amount of something different, when your body is working hard can have a bad effect.

You HM career is not over yet.....oh no...🏃‍♀️

I know. I have had Lucozade at all my events before, I bet they are just adding it In now because of the sugar tax coming in next month. I now know though so when these blister heal I will go back to training for 20th May 😀.

I'm glad you got to the bottom of it. I tried it because all the water had gone, and found it absolutely vile. What a pity for you. Glad you're feeling better though.

Luckliy for me it usually only a 24 hour thing. The difference is unbelievable from yesterday morning. It seemed to hit all my muscles this time, I don’t know why.

Thanks for sharing, it is crazy isnt it? The chemicals they add in those drinks are dire.... I do hope you feel better soon?

Feeling better already thanks. The news this morning is public health for England are urging more manufacturers to start using more.... 🙁. I am going to ask my kidney doctors next week for a good natural alternative for electrolytes. I will share if they come up with anything.

Such a pity this happened, but in a way it is a relief to have an explanation. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, you can not believe the relief I felt when I found out, I was beginning to think that HM were off the cards and that hurt, even for a short space of time.

The answer for Mr RFC is Fever-tree. “Unlike most mixers and soft drinks on the market today which contain saccharine or aspartame, our products contain no artificial sweeteners. In our regular products we use cane sugar and in our Naturally Light products we use fruit sugar. These naturally sourced sweeteners create a fuller mouth-feel with none of the cloying aftertastes associated with cheaper, artificial alternatives.”

Far nicer than any of the alternatives too.

Thank you, hehe it didn’t take are him long to find Fever tree. 😀. Just looked at the website and I love the sound of the Madagascan cola. Sounds like a perfect accompaniment to a dark rum. Mmmmmmm. I will try that I think. . 😀
