So I hit 10k at th beginning of the month but I am really struggling to hit it again it's so cold I bought loads of winter running gear and new trainers but really struggling with motivation through winter! Anyone else had this phase ?
Struggling! : So I hit 10k at th beginning of... - Bridge to 10K
Struggling!
It's not cold once you get running after a warm up walk and you hit your stride ☺
warm up indoors first before heading out for the warm up walk. jumping jacks, skaters, hip swings, high knees etc and then hit the street.
Get yourself out there! I am doing a 10k today, plus I have 2 dogs to walk, so can't skulk indoors. you soon get acclimatised, you really do ☺
Why don't you get your gear on and just go out for a walk. It's gorgeous out there at the minute and walking is very good exercise for us runners. I bet you'll break into a run in no time!
I hit the 7k two weeks ago and would like to do it again today. However my mobile broke last night so I now have to go into town and sort that out. I sadly see my run disappear because of life events....... Anyway, yes it is cold but once you get going you will be warm. The first foot out of the door is always hard followed by the next 10 minutes of 'what am I doing!!!' You will feel great when you get back. Aim for 10k route but have an early exit if need be. Chances are once you are running you will aim for the 10k!
I agree with Irishprincess. Just go for a walk, warmly dressed up. You'll probably enjoy it, and once you realise that it's actually not that cold when you get moving, you might find the mojo again.
Alternatively, accept that sometimes we all have "down" periods. Maybe you just need to give yourself a break for a couple of weeks.
Right there with you (although not hit 10k yet). But I went out for a very slow mile on thursday - as the first run in Asics 10k plan - and fell in love all over again. I hated it to start with but once I got used to it it was lovely: no great drama, just gentle motion and I felt fab all day. I'm finding the cold weather challenging due to muscle and joint problems but I have decide that if I have to slow down to get through winter that's what I'll do, and apparently it's great for muscle conditioning too. I hope you get your mojo back. My advice - such as it is - would be to play around with distance and speed to shake it up a bit and discover what works for you. Have fun.
