Just had consultation at Breast Clinic.

Hi

A month ago I posted as I was concerned about a small hard lump I found on top of my breast implant.

Just wanted to let everyone who replied the outcome of my consultation at the breast clinic today.

The consultant examined me and thought the lump was a stitch where the implant had been stitched into the muscle, but on the scan it showed it was in fact a crease in the shell of the implant. The scan also showed another small lump which was a stitch.

They also found a lot of calcification on the scar tissue which they said is normal on old scars.

I obviously felt relieved, but I have just researched the calcification on the internet and found it can be very early signs of breast cancer in some cases, so a biopsy is advisable. The consultant did not suggest this.

I now feel a little anxious and am left wondering if in fact the calcification is nothing to worry about.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

Hi there

I am also going through breast " assessment" at the moment , I have had underarm pain for a while. I saw the consultant on Monday who thinks that it's musculoskeletal pain.

The breast clinics seem to really know what they are doing and I would imagine that they would be able to differentiate between calcification as a result of a scar , or new calcifications. Obviously I am no expert , but would have thought that they would do all of the necessary assessments, they would have seen hundreds of thousands of patients. Everybody is so defensive these days that I'm sure they wouldn't say all is ok without being certain.

Take care xxxxx

Many thanks for your reply,

I have been going over what the Consultant said and he did say the calcification is along the scar tissue which does happen on an old scar.

My husband just said that I did ask the consultant if there was any cancer and he said no.

I always tend to go over what was said then end up getting totally confused.

I really need to stop worrying.

I hope you get you underarm pain sorted, I remember I had something like this and it also went along the side and top of my back. It did ease in time.

Wishing you good health.

Best wishes.

Hi, what a shame that you don't have a clear answer. I agree with charlie12 though and that the breast clinics are skilled in interpreting what they see. However, if you are worried it is best to speak to your breast care nurse and get further clarification. You could ask that question around when is calcification cancerous and when isn't it. Taking action will stop you worrying.

Hope you get the answers you are looking for. X

Many thanks for your reply.

My husband just said that I did ask the Consultant if there was any sign of cancer and he said no, so I would think they can tell from the type of calcification which type it is.

I hope so anyway.

Wishing you good health.

Best wishes.

I believe the consultant would have advised you if there was any concern whatsoever over this. If in doubt, call the breast care team and speak to the nurses. You can always go back for another appointment or see your GP and ask for a 2nd opinion. Always best to start with the experts IMHO. Best of luck. x

Many thanks for your reply,

my husbands keeps saying I am worrying too much as I have been checked out and all is O.K. It was that I goggled calcification and this put doubts in my mind.

The radiologist did say the calcification was along the implant scar line, which was normal.

I think I may ring the nurses as you suggest.

Wishing you good health.
