Went to see my oncologist today for my 2 monthly check, I explained I’ve been struggling with what I can only describe as nerve pain, as it’s a pain I’ve never had before since having radiotherapy. She’s felt down my spine and it felt “bruisey” on two vertebra, she’s now ordered at ct scan and I’m feeling nervous! I wasn’t expecting to still have this much pain, 12 months after operation,6 months after chemo and 5 months after radiotherapy. I’m feeling anxious now

Feeling nervous
My breast surgeon, who is wonderful, told me that it will take a year to recover from radiotherapy. My practice nurse told me the same thing. However, I’ve also had both a bone scan and a CT scan just to be safe and they didn’t show any sign of cancer. In my case, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 10 years before my breast cancer diagnosis. It’s slowed down my recovery. They think it could take an extra six months to a year for me. The end of November it was one year since the end of radiotherapy. I can tell a difference. The nerve pain is much less. I don’t think I will ever be fully recovered. Some times I think it’s a matter of looking for and accepting my “new normal”. Hope your tests turn out fine and everything improves with time.
I am sure I would feel anxious too but how good that your consultant is so thorough. There are so many reasons for back issues but of course we are concerned until results back. Do let us know how you get on.
Accepting what is normal for the new you is a help, so I agree Hidden
