TAMOXIFEN BRAND

Hello everyone

I have just come on to share something that hopefully others may find helpful. I am on tamoxifen and have been for 3 years and I've tried most brands, like many I find one particular brand works best for me with few or no side effects and that brand is teva. However the 20mg tablets of these are difficult to get hold of, I have asked most pharmacies in my area and all struggle to get supply so i then have to just put up with any and have horrible hot flushes, headache, constipation etc...

Yesterday I had to call up my usual pharmacy for my repeat prescription and like every month I asked for teva, again not available in the 20mg but plenty in the 10mg which upon hearing this quickly got me thinking, I could order those and take 2 a day therefore still getting 20mg per day but take one in a morning and one before bed! I called my doctors, put this idea forward and they don't foresee any problems with doing this and in fact the lower dose tablets should also see a reduction in side effects as I'm splitting the dose across the day. I will let you all know in around a month how I'm getting on.

Hope this helps anyone else struggling to get this brand as I know from research it appears to be the preferred brand but nationally difficult to get hold of in the 20mg.

Take care xx

Hi there this is exactly what I was worried about, getting different brands all the time. I am on anastrazole for 10 years, started in January this year. I've had the same ones TEVA since then however this month went to collect prescription and they are different. The new ones are Key Pharmaceuticals. I have read so many posts on here so am waiting to see if anything is worse. I do get hot flushes and have notices joint pain but that is all more or less.

I once did as you are with the tamoxifen. I take an antidepressant and couldn't get the 20mg so got the 10mg and took two per day. Sorted :-) I'm sure, to keep you on the ones you prefer, it is fine to get the 10mg ones. Good luck with them.

I'm hoping if necessary I will be able to request TEVA if the new ones make me feel worse. My hospital oncologist did say though that if any problems to let them know. I am on herceptin injection but only had in leg 3x but too painful, felt crippled the rest of the evening and couldn't bend my leg? They can't explain this so now have intravenous. Not the nicest way especially after chemo and veins being abit damaged but have no side effects this way.

Hope everything goes okay with you xx

I am on Anastrozole and always ask for the Teva brand as I have fewer side effects. I wonder why this is.

Hi

I was put on Letrazole first off after 5, weeks it was changed side effects were dramatic to say the least changed to Tamoxifen was lot better at first then flushes sweats etc came back not as bad but bad enough

LOCAL Macmillan centre suggested cutting tablets in half to take night and morning much improved Dr. Gives me 10mg take twice a day said no problem doing it.

Did 8 week free course accupunture at Macmillan made them lot better not gone completely but much better - after about a year they were getting more intense now go to a lady close to where I live privately and they have eased up again

I try and take my tablets approximately 12 hrs apart (some times I do sometimes I dont) but try all the same

THE BRAND I use is Wockhart and they seem to suit me

HTH helps anyone

Hugs Diane

Hi, thank you for that. I seem to get different brands all the time from my chemist and had not actually thought about it much, but I do sometimes feel worse than other times. I get a lot of hot flushes and get constipation at times too. So I will take better notice I think. Splitting it is a good idea, although my surgeon said it's better to take it at night so you don't notice the effects so much. Mind you, I do!

Best of luck. x

Early days update...I have been taking the teva brand 10mg tablets twice a day, once in a morning and then at 8pm for the last 3 days and I haven't had any hot flushes, bloating gone and I'm sleeping better. Still early days so I will update again in a few weeks.
