I was booked in to have bilateral breast surgery today for A-symmetry, but my operation got cancelled today, I had a mammogram on Tuesday and it showed abnormalities on both breasts. Surgeon suggested might be from previous surgery, but I’ve only had surgery on right side, not left, due to fibre-cystic breast tissue. I’ve been referred to a specialist for triple testing???? Whatever that is?? I’m so worried, should I be worried?? What do I tell my kids?? I lost my 1st husband to lung cancer 4 years ago...

Abnormality on mammogram
Dear Tricia, right now its the most horrid time for you. There are so many unknowns and its natural for your mind to run down all sorts of alleys. It must bring back all the sadness of your husband's illness which must make it even more difficult to cope with. You will know that the advice is to try and keep calm but that's almost impossible to do. I hope you dont have to wait too long for the tests so that you can move forwards. Is there perhaps a breast care nurse at your hospital that you can talk too? They can be very helpful. Its difficult to take all the information in straight away and a further discussion with healthcare could be helpful to you right now. With luck its nothing serious, I really hope it isn't bad news. Hugs and good luck Caroline xx
Thank you Caroline, I’ve been under the breast clinic at my local hospital for years having regular ultrasounds and even had some fluid drained because of my fibrecysistic tissues, the waiting is so hard, but I must think that had I not been having all this go on and the fab team that look after me and my boobies, that I wouldn’t have had the mammogram until I was 50, so I’ve got to think myself lucky. Thank you so much Caroline for your words of support xx Trish xx
Hi Tricia, really sorry to hear your news...my understanding of a triple test is referral to a breast specialist for thorough examination of the breast(s), armpits etc, a further mammogram that looks for specifics and an ultrasound with biopsies? This may be needle or core biopsie. So it’s all further tests to see if there is anything that may be suggestive of Cancer. It’s all procedural, so try not to panic and think the worst. The main thing is they’re looking after you and your best interests as they’re was dense tissue seen on your original mammogram. Stay positive and know that you’re in really good hands. Wishing you all the best and thinking of you, XX
I finally had an appointment to see a consultant to be told I’d been referred to the wrong person, a breast surgeon...... so had to wait another week for a scan and biopsy. The consultant radiologist was lovely and I’d met him before when he drained a cyst. Still no definitive answers as yet though as he said without the biopsy he couldn’t be 100%, but he said I may have papilloma..... whatever that is?...
When he tried to inject the anaesthetic, what ever it is, was so hard it bent the needle.
I’m now anxiously waiting for my results....
this has taken from the 6th November to get to this point, I feel so drained now.
