So as you amazing ladies know, I've been diagnosed with BC, just need to know, as im booked in on Wednesday for Lumpectomy, ....I wear acrylic overlays on my own nails, I've got a gel polish on, so I can take that off no probs, but has the acrylic got to come off as well, I've just had an infill done,I know this is stupid in the scheme of things but just thought I'd ask x

No question is a stupid question, unfortunately I don't know the answer, but get a pen and a sheet of writing paper, make a note of it and take it to your assessment where they'll answer that and any other questions you have xx

Yes, I thought that might be the best thing to do, I've bought some acetone ready to soak them off if needed, x

Hi

The advice I had when I had my mastectomy which was the first surgery I had in my life, due to anaesthetic I was told not to wear anything on my nails and no make up. I didn't ask why at time but later queried it with my aunt who is a retired ward sister and she said it's for your care team at time of op for their observations if you see where I'm going.

Hope this helps x

Hi cazlaz....yes I think I know where your coming from, I think from the info I've got today, I'm gonna have to soak my acrylic overlays off, never mind in the scheme of things it's not important, I'm so nervous about Wednesday, i had my adanoids out as a child I was 7 yr, so that was the last op I had, an i don't even remember it at all, so you could say this is my only surgery that I've ever had, absolutely terrified, xx

I have gel nails and had them when I had my double mastectomy in December. I just did a French polish and left off the gel on my two index fingers so they could monitor my oxygen levels. This didn't look as bad as it would if I had a block colour on if you know what I mean. We must look our best at all times. Hope that helps you. Again best of luck to you xx

Hi Vgrady76

As you can see by my name Mrs 💅🏼 l’m known for my nails!

They were painted ‘After Dark in Lincoln Park’ when l met my Surgeon, she said the colour had to go but l could keep the Acrylics! No colour on toenails either & she did say one finger would be enough but l took it all off & kept the acrylics.

It’s so the anaesthetist can monitor you in theatre, they put a clip on your finger which measures your Oxygen Saturation, so l’d say a gel polish & acrylic may be a bit too thick.

It’s not a stupid question it’s one of the things l asked when they said any questions, l think they meant medically but your brain does go off in its own way at this time.

When l went for my Pre Op l was asked to go & see the Consultant before l left & she said l had to come in the following day as the cancer was behaving very aggressively & l said ‘No, sorry l can’t, l’m having my hair cut! I cancelled my hair!........

So my advice lose the gel polish & hopefully they’ll let you keep the acrylic’s or just soak off one, middle finger, opposite side to your surgery!

Good Luck 🍀
