docetaxel: has any one on here had good... - My Breast Cancer ...
docetaxel
Hi Sue. I had three doses of Docetaxol back in 2014. It followed three doses of FEC. I had a 5 cm invasive ductal carcinoma in my left breast which had spread to my lymph nodes. I had the chemo before my mastectomy because the cancer was so aggressive, they wanted to kill it before they removed it. The FEC made the tumour collapse like a burst balloon and the docetaxol shivelled it up like a raisin. It was very impressive. I had my mastectomy a few weeks later, which was in May 2014. I am now 4 years cancer free. It's a tough chemo to endure, but it is definitely worth it! I am living proof of that. Please give your husband my best wishes, and keep fighting x
Yup! 100% response. I had a 5mm sized breast tumour that spread within 3weeks to my lymph node. After chemo they removed my breast tissue and there were literally no cancer cells left at all only scar tissue. I had a complete remission.
Now it was terrible therapy. I had an anaphylactic reaction on the last cycle and am now allergic to yew leaves but I won. It’s two years since diagnosis and I’m still cancer free.
Hi Sue
Docetaxel is not the easiest of drugs, l felt like I’d been hit by a train. The Chemo Team are always happy to help & if he finds it painful they will recommend appropriate Meds.
I found a warming blanket for my joints helpful (not such a good idea this time of the year)
I was prescribed slow release Morphine as the Chemo did a number on my bones.
You may find he needs to rest more & bed might be the best place for a few days so he can rest his body as much as possible.
I’m just coming up to my 3rd year following an aggressive TNBC

Hi Sue, I checked out the side effects from drug 1, it sounds equally aggressive to Docetaxel so poor thing, double digestive problems. None of this is easy but you wipe it from yoyr memory fast at the end. You will need a lot of patience and careful cooking. The Marsden cookbook is good. Good luck for a healthy result after the onslaught. Perhaps someone had both these drugs here and can help but as we are individuals and our diagnosis varies it might be a rare mixture. He should be monitered and drugs or doses changed if things go badly.
We are here to support if you find you need to talk.
Hi i had docetaxal but more as a preventative to stop recurrence as I already had a macestomy. Please just be very aware of the nadir period, when his white blood cells will be at the lowest and the last thing he needs is an infection.
Hi Sue, In 2016 I had HER2+ breast cancer in my left breast which had spread to my lymph nodes in the axilla, under my clavicle and in my neck. I was given 6 cycles of Docataxel, Carboplatin, Herceptin and Pertuzumab. I suffered one episode of sepsis but escaped from hospital the next day. To guard against that happening again, I had to inject myself with G-CSF for 7 days after each chemo cycle. That is the stuff that makes your bone marrow produce more white blood cells. It causes bone pain but on my doctor's advice I did the injections myself before I went to bed so found I didn't really notice the bone pain. I had chemo before surgery. The histology following surgery showed there was minimal disease left in my breast and none in the lymph nodes in the axilla. I didn't need radiotherapy I am now almost two years down the line and so far so good. The last CT scan showed no sign of disease. I believe Docataxel is derived from the European Yew, hence it is rather toxic! I still have some side effects but I think they are a small price to pay for my life! I'm sure your husband will be fine. Tell him to stick at it!
