I’ve recently been diagnosed with lobular carcinoma and am having a double mastectomy on Thursday. Last week was my first visit with an Oncologist. I started taking anastrozole on Wednesday. Today I feel like I’m coming down with a cold. Is this a side effect from the medication? I don’t want the surgery cancelled. I want to get that part over with.

Anastrozole
Oh dear. I hope it does not delay your surgery. Make sure the Hospital and Anesthesia people are aware of it if it has not cleared up by about the time for your surgery. Meanwhile, keep out of crowds and away from sick people, if you can.
It could be a side effect. Look down this page linked here__

I am so sorry about all you are going through. I also had double mastectomy for ILC, a little over two years ago. I started on Letrozole pretty soon after.
Are you in the UK? I understand some of our UK members have been refused bilateral mastectomy for ILC.
I’m in the US. Before the biopsy was performed I had an MRI. Both my surgeon and oncologist believe it is already in the other breast but too small to biopsy. They both think a double is the wad to go and my motto is when in doubt, take it out. I’m feeling better today. Thank you for responding
Hi tiredinky, i developed a really bad cold with sore throat prior to my mastectomy surgery, i think i was really run down from all the upset. Like you, i was really worried they would cancel my op on the day but they didn't, anaesthetist said they didn't cancel life saving surgery for a cold. Best wishes for your surgery, mine was lobular too. I'm 15 months down the line and life is good again 😀
Thank you for responding. I like you name mrsorangecat. I love cats. I just want to get the surgery over with and know if I have to go through chem and/or radiation
Ahh thank you, i love cats too ❤ i know what you mean, the waiting is the pits, the time between surgery and finding out if i were to have chemo and/or radiotherapy was just torture, it was about 3 weeks as they sent my tumour sample to USA for oncotype testing and it can take a while. I was very lucky though, i had a low score on the oncotype test so it was just radiotherapy for me. My friend is going thru chemo at the mo and she's coping really well. Like other people say, if you have to have it, it is tough but doable. she has brilliant anti sickness drugs and apart from feeling really tired she's doing ok, she's half way thru. I wish you all the very best for your op. Big hugs H xxx
I can’t imagine having to wait 3 weeks. Lately it seems like my life revolves around dr appointments and waiting for results. The idea of chemo scares me but I will do whatever it takes to beat it. Do you have to take an estrogen blocker for 5 years?
I remember all the appointments too, it just takes over your life doesn't it? You've got a really good attitude towards it. Iv been told iv got to take Tamoxifen for 10 years 🙄 tho to be fair its not been too bad apart from the achy knees, the weight gain round my middle and dryness everywhere...shouldnt complain, I'm alive and im happy most of the time 😀
Dear Tiredinky. I hope everything goes to plan for you this week. Its horrid for you. Look after yourself and I wish you all the best. Hugs Caroline xxx
