Since you started taking the drug, research has shown that 10 years is proving to extend the likelihood of the cancer not coming back. So some consultants are choosing to opt for a 10 year plan instead of 5. If you would feel happier staying on it, ask to. I'm in Kent. Started Tamoxifen in July 2014. Switched to Anastrozole in October 2015 as I took a blood test yhat showed I was post menopausal as a result of my treatment, and I was told I'd be on it for 10 years.

It depends on you I,ve been on Tamoxifen and exemestane ( not at same time) for coming up to 10 yrs .Am hoping that I will finish this year but if they say keep on it then I will. The recommended time on these drugs seems to change as time goes on.Don't worry about it they know what you need!!! 🙌✊💞 wishing you well xxx

I was told that you have to stay 10 years on Tamoxifen but only 5 on Anastrozole. I have a friend who decided by herself to continue Anastrozole for 11 years! I just hope to get to five without any hiccups and then stop taking it. It also depends on your age too.

Hi Janet, I have been told because I had positive lymph nodes that I must stay on the Tamoxifen for 10 years. So yes, it is normal. My cancer was gr 2 so not very aggressive.

I was told 10 years by my radiologist because it's the latest government guidelines and I'm happy with that because it means it's been treated for the next 10 years 👍🏼
