Ovarian cyst during pregnancy

Hello ladies.

Have any of you have / had a cyst during pregnancy? I have a 2,5cm cyst, and ca125 marker raised. I do suffer from endometriosis as well. I had a MRI and was told that the cyst isn’t cancerous but it is impossible for me to relax about it… anyone had similar experience?

Hi,I didn't have a cyst but I have had the ca125 marker raised, as my GP at the time (not in the UK) thought it should be tested because I had issues with HPV (vaginal infection and altered tissue without cancer). After the test I was directed to a gynecologist who was furious I got tested for CA125! He had a point - this is a test used to monitor recovery from cancer, not for diagnosis. A lot of women will have higher levels naturally and it really doesn't work as a diagnostic test. I ended up having it monitored for over a year, had blood tests, ultrasounds and even a CT scan, but they never found anything , and I haven't had any issues for the past 5 years. I read a few medical articles about it at the time (scientist here) and from all the statistics, it's really a bad test for diagnosis - most women with high levels don't have any problems at all. I know it can be hard to relax about it, but the more I read about it in articles and less on google, the more it became clear that this is the wrong test to diagnosis. The imaging test is much more reliable in this situation and I don't think they would have told you it's not cancer if they weren't certain about it (tecs and doctors tend to be very careful about this at the risk of being sued). Like anything, keep it monitored, but know that this test really shouldn't be used for diagnosis.

I am glad that all was fine with you after having found out that your ca125 raised. I have read many scientific papers online as well and know the raise in this marker might be for many reasons and they normally use it after the cancer has been already diagnosed and treated.

My Hematologist tried to convince me that given that the cyst looks normal and everything else is fine on the MRI I basically don’t have cancer but I am just freaking out as usual :) I would have had this cyst out and tested long time ago if it wasn’t for the pregnancy, I don’t want to put my baby at risk so I have got to wait. I have another test in September to see what it going on. If the marker is going up they will probably try to take the cyst out to see if it is cancerous… we will see. In the meantime I just have to hope that all will be fine. Thank you for your message again! All the best x
