Hi everyone, I am 14 weeks with my second ivf baby. My first was born 18 months ago, I had a fast labor (19 minutes 😬) and ended up with a deep 3rd degree tear which required a spinal block to fix. I recovered well, healed within 5 weeks and no long lasting health problems. I’m under a consultant again and they are pushing me towards an elective c section incase I tear again. I have nothing against c sections, I just really don’t want one as the thought of recovering from that with a 2 year old and a newborn is 🤯 has anyone had another vaginal birth after 3rd degree? X

Vaginal birth after 3rd degree tear
I haven't personally but a friend had a bad tear with her first and she asked her consultant what they'd do in her situation and they did they'd have the C section. She said it was a really good experience for her because it was elective she had a lot of control over it. Skin to skin straight away, delayed cord clamping etc, relaxing music, she said it was as chilled out as it could possibly be. She had a really good recovery thankfully.
You might get a better response from mum's on the NCT pages, the Bpas site is mainly aimed at woman who are looking for abortion advice.
Oh woops didn’t realise I posted in the wrong group, thanks for your message! I just feel that I wasn’t told at the time how bad my tear was (just assumed everyone went to theatre for a repair how naive) and only now I’m pregnant again are they telling me if I have another I could become incontinent 🤯 think I’m just feeling a bit like my bubble has been popped and don’t know what to do x
Ahh that's so awful, what a nasty shock.Hopefully your consultant can run you through your options and you've got a while to decide what you want to do.
If you healed well last time, I might be inclined to go the natural route again unless you have any other complications during your pregnancy.
I have with my first. Was told chance of having it again was 7% (I think!), So offered me section. I went on to have two more babies normal delivery. Did have tears with both 2&3 but there were 1/2 degree instead and healed well each time.
That’s so good to know and 7% is very low isn’t it. I would just like the chance to try vaginally as I managed fine last time she just came out too quick! X
