Morning sickness

m 13 and a half weeks pregnant. I’ve had nausea from weeks 7-12 and then from 12 onwards I’ve also been sick. This seems to be getting worse, I’m sick a few times a day and today I have been unable to eat or drink much. I seem to feel/be sick every time I move now and I don’t know how I’m going to go back to work on Wednesday. I have a virtual appointment with a Dr tomorrow but I’m not sure how they can help. Anyone else felt like this? It’s really affecting my mental health. I’m so happy to be pregnant but struggling with the sickness.

Hi there. I’m 8 weeks today and have been pretty much lying down for three weeks with unbelievable nausea (which I find is worse then the vomiting) and vomiting up to 6 times a day. Food and drink totally unappealing, can’t walk in the kitchen without vomiting from the smells. How is yours now? Did you get any advice from the Dr? X

Hey! I feel for you because I have had severe morning sickness from about 5 weeks and I'm now 10+6. It's still not gone away. I was hospitalised at one point because I kept nearly passing out - they said I had very high hcg levels so it could be that my body is very sensitive to it, hence the morning sickness and near passing out etc. I ended up going on medication at about week 8 because it was becoming unbearable. I'd been really against medication to begin with but after a lot of research and reassurance from the GP and Midwife, I decided it was better to take it. I was getting to the point of having to go to hospital again for fluids etc because I just couldn't eat/drink enough, my body was fully rejecting everything. I started on cyclizine and it definitely took the edge off, allowing me to eat/drink more and actually function day to day (to some degree). However, the past week has been rough again and I have been violently vomiting despite the cyclizine - starting to reject everything again. I can't even brush my teeth without retching and vomiting a lot of the time. Smells set me off badly too and I couldn't go into the kitchen without a peg on my nose at 1 point!! People keep saying it gets better in the 2nd trimester and I just really hope it does but some people I've spoken with have it until around week 20 and others have it throughout their pregnancy. I spoke with the GP again a few days ago at my whits end, in floods of tears and they've added in prochlorperazine which is a tablet you put between your lip and gum until it dissolves (much better for absorbency, rather than throwing a tablet up 30 mins later). It's helping for sure and again, allowing me to function to some degree but it definitely hasn't got rid of it. It's always there in the background and exhausting. I'm actually signed off work with it at the moment. My advice would be, definitely speak to your GP and possibly even your midwife. Most medication is not suitable for pregnant women because researchers can't ethically test something on a pregnant woman. However, lots of people have had to take medication for multiple reasons in pregnancy and they then analyse those effects. I have been told that the risk is minimal and that you have to weigh up the risk v benefit e.g. I couldn't function without the medication and it's also not good for baby if you're constantly dehydrated and stressed. I would never advise anyone else to take medication, that's something for your medical professionals to advise you on. I'm just sharing my experience in the hope that it will help. Good luck with your GP appointment and sorry for the long message!! P.s. if you need time off work then take it - employers have to disregard sickness related to pregnancy Xx

Hi Red_robins , just jumping on your response as I am also suffering from all day nausea but no vomiting. I am currently 10+6 and feel worst as ever. I am so scared to take cyclizine because i don’t want anything to happen to my baby. I might have to dodge the bullet though as this isn’t sustainable. Are you still taking cyclizine? How do you feel now that you are 6 months pregnant? Did you start feeling better at some point? Xx

Hi! I'm 27 weeks and 4 days now. I've had morning sickness throughout and it continues. However, the severity has fluctuated and I have had periods of relief. I've still got the medication (cyclizine and prochlorperazine) and take it periodically. I have had to take it throughout my pregnancy so far though to function. Upto now everything seems good with our baby boy - we had a 4d scan yesterday and it was amazing! I find that the sickness is a fickle thing in that, the slightest thing will make it worse e.g. I've had recurrent sinusitis (apparently I can thank pregnancy hormones for that too 😅) and that combined with the antibiotics, always makes my sickness worse. If I'm tired or in pain, it gets worse. If I don't eat regularly, it gets worse. Basically, you have no choice but to listen to your body! Make the most of any days or hours where you get some relief and relax. Good luck! Xx

So sorry to hear that your all day sickness didn’t back down. I started taking cyclizine but I had to stop as it was giving me very bad acid reflux which made it worst.

I have had to slow down from work in the afternoon as I am hopeless. It’s my first pregnancy so I didn’t know what to expect to be honest. I am definitely trying to take it easy and my husband has been amazing at looking after me and feeding me every 2 hours 🤣.

I wish you the best in your pregnancy and thanks again for answering my comment. Xx
