could i be pregnant?

hi all, i am new to the site so i don't really know what im doing but i am looking for some advice.

i am 6 days late for my period so just wondered when the best time is to take a pregnancy test? i gave birth 9 months ago on Wednesday and i heard that within the first year of having a baby your more fertile, is this true.

any feedback would be great thanks :)

During pregnancy, high levels of sex steroid hormones suppress pituitary gonadotrophins. Within 30 days of delivery, placental sex steroid levels decrease and gonadotrophins increase thus stimulating the activity of the ovaries. The earliest date of ovulation in non breastfeeding women is thought to be day 28 and menstruation may return by week 6. So post-natal fertility usually returns quickly.

As your baby is now 9 months old, there is a high chance you might be pregnant. A pregnancy test would now be accurate as you are 6 days late for your period. It might be an idea to take a test at your nearest contraceptive and sexual health clinic so you can decide what you want to do if it’s a positive result.

I hope this helps

Best wishes
