Hi I had unprotected sex a week before my period. Is it possible that I can still get pregnant. If so when would be a good time to try and take a test?

Unprotected sex
Hi there
There’s always a possibility of pregnancy with any unprotected sex. If your period is normal then it is unlikely that you are pregnant but I would recommend taking a test just to be sure.
You can get tests for free from your GP or local contraceptive and sexual health clinic (you can find your nearest one here fpa.org.uk/find-a-clinic ). When you are there you could also talk to them about starting a form of contraception, if you don't want to be pregnant.
You can also buy pregnancy tests from pharmacies, supermarkets and even pound shops. If you wanted you could use a very sensitive pregnancy tests before your period is due such as ‘first response’ but unfortunately the results they would give aren’t always as accurate as if you waited until your period is due before testing.
There is more information about taking a test from the NHS website: nhs.uk/Livewell/Sexandyoung...
I hope this helps
Best wishes
