Hey y'all just a question if anyone can help. I had got my first depo provaro shot for the first time 12-31-14, my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex 2 an he busted in me both times. Granted this was about 18hrs or so after my shot and I was on the 4th day of my period. Could I be pregnant?? Any input helps I'm freaking out!! Thanks(:

Hi There,

As long as the first injection was given on Days 1-5 of your period you will be covered. This information should have been given to you at your first injection?

nhs.uk/Conditions/contracep... - this link will give you more information on the contraceptive injection.

Best Wishes

Katherine

Hi Katherine thank you soo much for the information! My obgyn didn't tell me too much of anything my shot was givin by student nurses and when I asked questions they snipped at me! However I did read follow ups online and lots of them said different things. Thankfully I got my first shot on day 4 of my period and we waited like 18 hrs after to do that so I'm just hoping I'm not expecting just yet. I had taken a pregnancy test the next day and it came out negative so maybe it was too soon? Not sure. I greatly appreciate your help. Take care

Hi there,

Yes, as you had the shot within the first five days of your cycle, it will have started to work straight away. But yes, taking a pregnancy test the day after having sex is, generally, too soon - it's recommedned to wait until your period is late or if you aren't sure when your period is due (and the injection can make periods irregular), then you should test at least 21 days after you last had unprotected sex. But as I said, there is most probably nothing to worry about.

Best wishes,

Katherine
