I am booked in for an abortion next week and am starting to feel a little anxious about it and was hoping some of you might be able to put my mind at ease. I know it’s the right thing to do right now but the closer it is getting the more worried I am about all the little things that I hadn’t thought of before like who can come with me and can I eat before? It may seem silly to ask but does anyone know if I will have to go under anaesthetic? My GP probably told me all this but I’ve forgotten.

It is completely normal to be feeling a bit anxious at this point - and these aren't silly questions at all. Are you able to talk to a friend or partner about how you are feeling? It can help to talk things through with someone else.
Do you know which type of procedure you are having? There are two types of treatment, medical and surgical, and if you have a surgical procedure you may be given a general anaesthetic. We have lots of information on our website about what happens on the day here: bpas.org/bpaswoman/abortion... It might be worth speaking to someone at the clinic or your doctor in advance of your appointment just to talk through the details. Do you have a contact number you can call?
I hope this helps. Just let me know if you have any other queries or concerns.
Thank you so much for your reply, it was very helpful. I think I will call up the clinic to check what type of procedure I am booked in for. I have been onto the website and found the correct number so I will call them later. And yes I have spoken to my partner but to be honest he is sort of useless at this sort of thing so I may talk it over with my friend this weekend! Thanks again.
I agree with Katherine if you can talk to someone about your worries I am sure that will be a huge help. And having concerns is really normal so don't beat yourself up about that. I hope everthing goes ok. x
I just wanted to say thank you for your advice and kindness...I have my appointment tomorrow and have talked over everything with my partner so I am feeling better about everything. The people at the clinic were really helpful and I feel better prepared now. Thanks again. X
