Hi All I’m actually begging here for some tips,on Diverticulitis and how to handle the pain.

Over the past month I have been to my GP twice,A&E twice once by ambulance and second time by car. I’ve dialled 111a few times seen an emergency Doctor, and I’m just getting worse. The pain is unbearable,my hubby must be sick of seeing me cry. Over the last 2 days I’ve got up with diarrhoea and now I’m in agony. I’m at my wits end and I have no answers what to do next.

If anyone here has done this suffering can you please give me a few tips on how to handle it. I had a birthday yesterday and asked no one to come and see me becau I just felt so unwell, and today is the same.i don’t no where to turn. Thank you in advance.

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis in March, I had no symptoms prior and in the last 5 weeks I have had 3 attacks. You are right, it is absolutely excruciating, I would liken it to labour pains, I dont know what to do with myself, end up rolling around on my bed in tears. The diarrhea is bad too, worst I've ever had. 3 days ago I ended up calling an ambulance, the pain and diarrhea so bad I couldnt go in a car to hopital. when we got there they put me in a chair and shoved me in the full-to-bursting waiting room. Several hours later I was given morphine, when it had eased the pain I just went home. I wont go again - how embarassing being in a waiting room with dreadful diarrhea which was happening with no warning and so much pain i just wanted to lie down. I know they were busy, I have no tips to give at this time but know you are not alone with this. I plan to call my surgery dietician tomorrow for an appointment so I am hoping for advice there. If I find out anything worthwhile I will pass it on. I do feel though, that not everyone has this truly severe pain as in every article I have read about it just says cramps. Cramps! are they joking! I would love it if you would keep me up to date with how you are getting on x

Hi Alice, you asked me to keep you up to date. Well I’ve had two hospital experiences since I was last on here, just like you described, spent 3-4days in hospital then come home with no answers.Needless to say each time the pain gets severe which is usually to wards the evening,I’m all over my sofa, and I worry my hubby, but I would rather take a Temazapam and go to bed if possible than go to hospital.

I woke up early yesterday with a real need for the toilet, but I couldn’t go,the pain was unbearable, then I sat on the toilet and had continuous watery diarrhoea for about two hours,I felt that weak I went to bed. When I woke up my hubby done me a small cup of soup and one slice of bread, and it set it all off again. I felt really ill.

I got up this morning had my rice crispies that ended up in the loo,and I’m now just in bearable pain. But I feel so low, because I never feel well. I’ve even got to a stage I want no visitors not even family because I just feel unsociable. And that’s where I am Alice.
