Fractured vertebrae and RLS . Question?!

Hi all. I have posted a lot on the RLS Forum and they have been wonderful. I have a fractured lumbar vertebrae which is trapping nerves. I have been begging my Dr. for 3 or 4 years to refer me to a Neurologist but 1 has only just agreed to do that . Is there not an injection which can be given to block the pain because the more I do the worse the pain gets and the worse the RLS gets? I have widespread Osteoporosis. I had a hysterectomy because of Endometriosis at age 34 and on HRT for 16 years, walked our dogs every day to try to keep the Osteoporosis at bay but then fractured my vertebrae 4 years ago and am so restricted now. The more I do the worse the pain gets and the worse the RLS gets . I haven't had any help or advice from our Dr.s regarding Osteoporosis and all I got from the Orthopaedic Consultant was that I have had too many birthdays which means that I have Osteoporosis! I will be 72 in 2 weeks . I did not appreciate that comment! Idiot!!Any advice about what I can do to help myself would be appreciated. I have been prescribed Buprenorphine Sublingual tablets which helps to a degree and helps the RLS. The Dr. tried me on morphine tablets, MST but I had a horrible allergic reaction so had to stop them! I had lung cancer and Lobectomy 7 years ago and the Pain Clinic omitted for 15 months to tell anybody that they had my lung tumour on an Xray until I had to be ambulanced to hospital with Pneumonia. The medical profession and I don't have a good track record! 😕 Take care all.All the best ,

Danni

I have a lot in common with you: because of aged 36. HRT for 17 years (then, second time endometriosis blocked my ureter!)…. I have two spinal fractures due to Osteoporosis. RSL. I get leg/feet cramps in bed most mornings, so have had a special long bed made, and a short measure mattress, so I can dangle my feet in the gap at the end. When cramp hits, I wriggle down and press my feet against the end of the bed. That helps.

I don’t know how to join other forums on health unlocked, and if I do, how do I come back to the Osteoporosis one?

Hi. I really sympathise with you. Endo is horrible and still underrated I think. When I went for a mammogram after being on HRT for 16 years, I was called in and told that I had to stop them immediately because my veins were crystallising ! That was fun ! Instant menopause but luckily that wasn't too bad ! I do stretch my legs and toes but my spine is so sore that I have to stop. As for accessing other forums, I Googled HealthUnlocked and typed in the forum I wanted like Endometriosis or RLS. Once you have put in your profile it should come up with ' My Hub ' and you can add the forums which you are interested in. Then it's easy enough to get back to your forums. and you will get Alerts when people reply to you so just press that and it will take you to whoever has replied. The people on the lung cancer and RLS Forums and this one have kept me going because I don't get any help or support from any medical person here! ! If you still have a problem accessing forums then contact the ROS Moderator on this Forum.

Take care and if you ever need to offload you will get help here . All the best. Danni

Thanks Danny. I don’t quite understand. : what exactly was making yourveins crystallize?

Hi again. Apparently the HRT caused the veins to crystallise . I hadn't been told that that could happen. I had mammograms after I had stopped and eventually they went back to normal. Weird! The Consultant told me that once I stopped the HRT that they would be alright and they have been. I hope that I didn't worry you! You have enough to worry about and the medic's would have told you if there had been a problem. It didn't cause me any health issues so please don't worry about that !! We had enough going through Endometriosis and we have enough going on now! Good luck with everything and please take care.

thank you Danni54. No I wasn’t worried, I was just interested, as I’ve never heard of such a thing before.

as for trusting the medics, I don’t. I think we live in a time where the medical professional under the influence of the pharmaceutical companies. It’s all to do with money.

my thinking is, I’m not going to have my second injection of Denosumab. It’s OK to stop after just the one injection. And I think that the risks outweigh the anyway…….

I’m sorry that you have so much going on. I’ve got both a Cousin and a friend who has lumber fractures and like you have a job to walk or do things. Have you thought about getting one of these motorised wheelchairs that can take you round anywhere both inside and out. But you must bear in mind you need to walk to strengthen the bones. It might be an idea just to do things. To be honest I don’t find pain killers work. Having a rest when it gets bad helps.

I have Osteoporosis badly although with bone medication my bone score has improved. It’s too late for the seven spinal fractures I’ve already got. I can relate with you. The more you do the more pain you get. The only way I can deal with it is to do a little and when the pain is unbearable, sit down till it passes. Then do a bit more. It works out that it takes you all day to just do a little but better that than nothing. I’ve had to get a cleaner in as it’s too much for me. And I’ve got an ironing lady too. I’ve had a bad back now for about six years. In fact I had one vertebrae go in 2013. It went undiagnosed so it’s a lot longer than that. When I had my first dexa scan my result was -5.5. After medication the last one was -4.3 so still not good but better than it was.

Anyway I hope you can get some Eileen. X

I can totally relate to you, I've now got a cleaner, someone who does the ironing and a gardener. I have a robot vacuum cleaner, it is good for in-between cleans. I do a bit then lie down then do a bit more then repeat on and off all day. Some days it's easier to accept my limitations than others!!Somedays I think blow it, I'm going to ignore the pain and do whatever...... But it doesn't work, I can't, the pain won't let me even with the morphine etc I'm ok if i don't do anything but it's so boring 🤷🏻

Yes me exactly. I get up and feel good then think I can do this but my back says oh no you can’t. It makes me angry that I can’t do it. I’d love to be able to do my own cleaning. I do the odd little bit but I can’t do it all. I’ve been where you have and said blow it I will do it but end up in agony so it’s not worth it. I know I’ll still try though.

Yes, I don't seem to learn though!!!!

Nah! We never do but that’s good because it shows we are still fighting. Never give up. I usually push it beyond the worst pain before I give in. When I’ve rested I’m fine again.
