First Denusomab

Teriparatide2024 profile image

I’m scared because I had my first Denosumab injection yesterday afternoon, and all previous treatments gave me side effects (that’s all orals, that wrecked my insides), and then Teriparatide (had to stop after 7 weeks). So last night my left hip felt a bit too hot, and this morning it’s very hot, and hot all down the leg. I’ve been having intermittent left hip pain (which doctor and I think is actually my lower back)….. Have any of you experienced hip sensations? I hope it’s not related to the femur…..

i regularly have these injections and only feel tired and a bit fluey after. Your experience should be reported. If it is continuing then get in touch with doc. Hope you are feeling better.

When I had my first injection I experienced that hot feeling in my hip, also in the bottom of my spine. It did wear off after a couple of days. The injections after that were fine, and I didn't experience it again. I stayed on it for 4 and half years, but due to other side effects I decided to stop taking it. It was followed up with a zoledronic acid infusion, the effects with that were 100 times worse, and lasted a lot longer.

Thank you minister. It is comforting to know that you had that hot hip thing too, and that it wore off after a couple of days. I guess it is due to the general inflammation that is caused to start with, which I will have felt more in my hip as this is a place where I have a slight problem anyway.

What were the other side effects that you experienced which made you stop after 4 1/2 years?

I realize the follow on I would have would probably be zoledronic acid. You say the side effects were MUCH worse. Was it feeling fluie or something else? And, how long did they last?

The Denosumab was aggravating my Pancreas which was a long standing condition, but this was making it worse. I had bad effects from the zoledronic acid, the worst flu symptoms I have ever experienced, the bone and joint pain wa terrible I couldn't move for 2days, my temperature was high. I had swollen lumps coming up on my face. It took about 4 to 6 weeks for me to feel normal. I never had another one. I couldn't be put through that again. But this is just me, there are many people who get on fine with it I'm sure. We all react differently to drugs.

Hi jiminster. ….so did you have the aggravation to your pancreas during the whole of the 4 1/2 years??

I was OK on the first injection, but it started after the 2nd injection, and then carried on after that. It was a problem I already had, but this drug seemed to provoke, and aggravate it more.

Hi jimister. Can you tell me what the ‘other’ side effects were?

Hi, it was mainly upper abdominal pain. I do suffer with pancreas problems, and this drug seemed to aggravate it. I also used to get some jaw pain on the one side. I stayed on it for 4 and half years, but had enough of the problem. I then went onto a Zoledronic acid infusion, and the side effects from that was worse. But I have to say I am very sensitive to drugs, and always seem to get side effects. I'm sure other people get on fine with these medications. If you are thinking of going onto them then I would say try them you may be OK and not suffer any or mild side effects.

thanks jimister for replying. I am very sensitive to drugs too, and always seem to get side effects!

I’m feeling better as of yesterday. That was 11 days of awfulness (since my first Denosumab/Prolia injection). 3 of these days were too unbearable, so I took a strong painkiller. (along with 4 Sena pills, because I can’t afford to have constipation). My GERD and general insides were badly affected from the painkillers/constipation. My right kidney was stabbing (It was previously blocked due to endometriosis.). My Homeopath gave me some detox remedies (one specifically for Denosumab). They worked instantly, so now I’m OK. Thinking, if I continue OK, I will have the second injection in six months time…..

thanks jiminster. If, and I’m aware its an if, it were to be more problematic after the second injection, for me that would be affecting the osteoarthritis. Will have to wait and see….. 🤞
