update re Doctor Appointment and Risedronate

well I went to see a different doctor this morning, a young man who specialises in older peoples problems.

Not only did he have a copy of Dexa scan on computer (previous doctor said they didn’t get them) but explained that it’s in my right hip -2.7. Knees are osteopenia. Left hip was replaced 2014.

Risedronate is given as a starter tablet as it is gentler on the stomach and I suffer from IBS. I explained that I hate cold water and he suggests I use warm water. If it doesn’t help I can go back to him but injections or dissolvable tablets would mean seeing a rheumatologist and going to hospital to have the injections (I’m in UK).

He’s put my mind at rest and also given me gel to rub in my knees and hip to help with getting me walking, so I’m thinking positive.

If you're in England, your GP can prescribe soluble AA (binosto), you don't need to be referred to a rheumatologist for that. I don't know whether that's also true of other parts of the UK.

that’s so good to hear you’ve received that level of support from a GP - good luck going forward!

I’ve been prescribed soluble alendronic acid by my GP, no referral to a rheumatologist. I’m in Essex.

Thank you that is so interesting to know. Will take a look and see if I’m suitable to have this.

Thanks again

I have also been prescribed effervescent Binosto straight off, by a GP in Cornwall. Very easy to take, just make sure all the tiny bits have dissolved! All the best.
