In our first #BoneMatters session of 2023, Dr Nicola Peel and Prof. David Armstrong explore how HRT can be used as an osteoporosis drug treatment to strengthen bones. We really value your feedback and are keen to hear how you found the session, to let us know, please take a moment to complete our short survey: surveymonkey.co.uk/r/29BDZ5Q
Thank you for all the questions we received, we asked as many as we could fit into the time. We hope you’ll feel better informed and more able to take positive steps in terms of considering taking HRT if it is an option for you.

I don't think putting this information on a site where most women are beyond menopause and already have osteoporosis is very helpful. In fact it makes me angry because although my mother suffered badly from osteoporosis, HRT was never even offered to me and to hear this now makes me very sad.
I heard from someone in Europe who is in her 70’s that she’s taking HRT, so I ask a local endocrinologist here if that was possible….all she said was we’re in America, not Europe. That was a no but with no reasons provided. Do you know? If it due to possible heart attacks…there are horrible effects from other Osteo meds too! Why just single out hrt as a NO.?
Older hrt medication was considered to be risky in terms of blood clot risk. Now people use patches so risk is minimal. Breast cancer is more of a risk if obese than taking hrt.. Some Dr will prescribe it for older women in the UK ,if the Drs are up to date with current research. Most aren't and say an emphatic No.
I'm 70 and been taking hrt for 2 yrs. I have several spinal fractures, my latest dexa scan shows improvement in right neck femur -2.9 compared with -3.3 two yrs ago .Also having 3 monthly zometa. But I think it's the hrt. Improved sleep , pity I was advised to stop taking many years ago.My bones may not be in this condition.
