Is this surgery result ok?

Hi, this is after a surgery to pull a displaced fracture back into place. I'm not medical but looking for reassurance on whether it looks ok and will heal properly like this as to my untrained eye it doesn't look great at all!! Thanks!

If I were you and worried about the appearance I would ask for a very clear explanation of exactly what is pictured and what the expectations are as the bone knits - I assume this is immediately post-op? If you are not satisfied now is the time to ask for something better because if it isn't positioned optimally you will suffer permanent consequences. But really unless someone using this forum is a trained radiologist I don't suppose we can offer valid opinions.

This is a week after the op, yes.

I'm not sure how to go about asking for a second opinion, I'd like to hear from a different hospital really.

Can your gp help? Are you in a cast or a brace? Will you be getting another x-ray this week? I had a tibial plateau fracture some years ago. There was no displacement and no surgery but I was x-rayed weekly at first, and then every two weeks for several weeks.

Initially the bone wasn't thought to be broken but the newly minted orthopedic specialist who came on duty the morning after I was sent home from the emergency department with a muscle injury saw the fracture. So mistakes can be made. but I'd have thought the surgeon would have made sure the bone was matched up correctly. It is very hard to understand the image, the picture of the injured leg is much clearer.

How are you feeling?

It's my son's arm! Sorry for confusion thought I'd said that.

I did notice when it was on screen and consultant basically ignored and said it will remodel.

But, it doesn't sit right with me.

There is no injured leg, they are both pictures of a forearm, from different angles.

I presume the consultant said the xrays were fine? They both look a bit odd in one place but I have absolutely NO medical knowledge about x rays. If this was done on the NHS can't you call the consultants secretary and explain your concern to her and ask her to pass your message on to the consultant? It is a shame you did not pick this up when you saw the result on the screen (which I presume you did) at the appointment because then you could have mentioned your concern there and then.

It's my sons arm and the consultant seemed to think it's fine. But, the hospital doesn't have good ratings and the way he just ignored my concern pretty much was offputting and has made me worry.

Sorry. As this is a site for osteoporosis, I assumed it was yours.

Oh didn't realise it was for osteoporosis, just saw 'bone health' and thought someone might know!!

That's what I thought too. It's not really clear from the page which opens when you find this forum!

I wonder if you can find something on this forum.
