Has anyone got Osteonecrosis of the knee after Zolendronic Acid Infusion and long term Prednisolone for PMR?

Hi, am having unbearable pain in my knee,so bad it is making me scream. Ended up in A and E last week, where they did nothing but send me away with useless painkillers. Been to Docs this morning and persuaded him to send me for an x ray.

As I have had 4 fractures in my spine am really frightened in case I have a fracture.

The Doctor has given me excersises to do such as stepping up and down on the bottom stair, laughable as I can't even lift my foot off the floor.

My question is, should I be doing these excercises until I find out if I have a fracture.

Thank you, Jenny x

I believe you have answered your own question. If you cannot do the exercises then in my humble opinion, please do not force it. My advice would be to wait until the result of the xrays if it is so painful. Have you tried hot and then cold on the knee? That may well help along with elevation if you would find that comfortable and perhaps a compression bandage. ie RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Thank you Kaarina. I have not tried the hot and cold,I will give it a go.

It seems odd to me to give me excersises for arthritis when he doesn't know that is what I have got. Could do more harm than good I think.

Totally agree with you Attic. As I mentioned earlier have a chat with the physio and if he/she is good at their work they will want to know that you have had xrays so that they are more aware with what they are working with. I always prefer heat on painful joints but a bag of frozen peas, not put directly on the skin (put something between your skin and the ice) does numb pain and reduce inflammation if there is any.

Hi

If the knee is swollen I wouldn't do anything until you know what it is. I am having the same issues I am in week 7 and now having an MRI to see what is going on in the knee. If your xray come back clear that would be your next step !
