Should I quit?

I have had one shot of Prolia. I think I want to stop due to back and neck pain. I’ve also experienced a funny taste in my mouth.

I don’t want to take any drugs to replace and an worried I may suffer fractures.

I would appreciate any advice.

Hi Gorm,

Of course, it is up to you if you no longer wish to have another prolia jab due to the side effects you are experiencing or for any other reason. Problem is that information is now available which is that on stopping prolia there is a possibility of rebound vertebral fractures occurring unless one continues with another op drug. I do not suppose that anyone can tell you for sure if this may happen/not happen after one prolia jab.

It is a real worry isn't it and I am sorry that you are in this position of uncertainty.

This needs to be discussed with your doctor, but if you read through this you will see statement by at least one researcher that after a single shot of Prolia there should be no risk of the rebound osteoporosis. This is no longer true if you have had more than one shot.

Where can I read about researchers discussing rebound fractures saying there should be no rebound fractures after one injection of Prolia?

Like to keep up with this. I have had several injections so far no problems.

Sorry, I don't remember after all this time, if I ever knew more than what was in the article linked in the post you replied to above.

Hi Gorm I am on Prolia. I sometimes get a metallic taste in my mouth but it doesn't last long. It was much worse when I was on bisphosphonates. Hopefully yours should go soon.

I wud discourage any further use of Prolia (I hav had many side effects, but hav seen recovery since my last Prolia inj. has been over 7mos ago); if u don't want to try other drugs, eg Boniva, trying mega dosing naturals like Ca + D.

Hi snodog47, I was wondering, did you take an alternative drug after stopping Prolia? And did it take the full 7 months of recovery from the side effects?

No I did not try any alternative (eg Boniva) yet; I am in the process of Changing Doctor!!!

I would no waste time getting on another osteo med. after stopping Prolia to avoid rebound fractures. Govt. report said these can happen after being off several months with no replacing with osteoporosis meds.
