Strontium therapy

Thanks for all posts. Very interesting if not somewhat confusing but as every 'body' is different, understandable!

My question is about strontium. Has anyone tried this form of therapy? I am reluctant to take the biphosphates and infusions as had negative experiences some years ago.

Thank you

Do you mean taking strontium ranelate or strontium citrate?

If so, I was prescribed SR and took it quite happily and was devastated when it was withdrawn in the UK in August 2017. I have also taken strontium citrate.

I’m been on SR since 2011 and like Kaarina I’m devastated at its withdrawal. I took Strontium Citrate for a few months prior to getting SR, without problems. I’m still undecided what to take once my SR supply runs out. It probably will be Strontium Citrate, although I would prefer a pharmaceutically tested product like SR. So much of the Strontium ore comes from China and I’m concerned about contamination with other heavy metals, if it’s procesing isn’t properly regulated.

Thank you both. I too have been trying to decide what to do. And still need to research what strontium and which one actually does and its effects. Thanks for the information on the strontium ore! Did you have positive results from SR?

I will not know until I get a dexa for which I am waiting for a date. The doctor I see in April and October for my osteoporosis, mentioned that SR stays in the system for around six months. I appreciate that my dexa scan will not be accurate as there is some calculation that should be done if a patient has been taking SR but no one appears to know/can be bothered to do this. ....

As far as I’m aware, there’s no accurate way to calculate for error, as we will all absorb it at different rates.

Servier who made SR reported that the increase error can be up to 50%. I gained 10% in just over 2 yrs, so even if it’s only 5% increase, it at least proves that I’m absorbing it.

I therefore hope/assume, that it’s doing it’s job of stimulating the osteoblasts and osteoclasts ie improving bone turn over.

I found this article from a DEXA expert about Strontium. You may find it interesting, assuming it will open.
