Hi veganista,

I am sorry that you are in hospital getting over a hip operation and hope all will be in place at home for you soon so that you can get back to your own surroundings. At least you have a diagnosis of osteopenia and not osteoporosis so you have had a warning unlike most of us! Once you are fully recovered it will be good to do some weight-bearing exercising ie walking is a good all round one to do. Also a good diet is important along with Vitamin D. Your username suggests you may have a vegan diet? I too suffer with osteoarthritis and have had three knee replacements (one done twice) and a total shoulder replacement which became loose so I am waiting for that to be done again unfortunately.

You can always give the helplines a call and speak with a nurse. Tel: 0808 800 0035 - It is free from all UK Landlines, Mobiles.

Let us know how you get on, once home.

Very best wishes with your return home and with on-going recovery. You seem to have a very positive outlook and I'm sure that will help you along.
